Shark warning in Lake Mac

Just bringing your notice to this article if your a LM resident or planing a visit this summer.
I've lived on or around the lake for most of my 58 years and never once seen a Noah. But I know they are there. I've also surf skied and kayaked and snorkelled in the shallows of Swansea Chanel in the early 80s when I lived there. No issues.

It's a simple fact that since the govt bought out the commercial fishos about ten years ago that the lakes fish population has grown and that has attracted the predators. I love LM but I'm now very cautious about where I swim. Yonks ago we'd swim off the back of the mooring on a hot summer night but no longer. Also we don't just jump overboard any old place in the middle of the lake to cool off.

Just be wary if your are here. Particularly where kids are involved. There are some nice sand flats and an island that provide relative safety just north of the airport. Bull sharks are also an issue but the great white comes with its own orchestra. :o

Seems to me that most sharks that are spotted by the public are 3m Great Whites. A similar thing happens with snakes. Here we only have 6' Tiger Snakes

Yeah, I agree but although the fish in this clip is not a 3 m great white I would not like to test any theories with him. Interesting go to YouTube and search the term Lake Macquarie shark and there are now a few videos up ....filmed mostly in the bits I sail in :o

You have to be unlucky but it happens . This girl was a friend of my daughter. She was saved by being on a fast commercial boat with trained crew who got her out of the water quickly and to help.

They are big snakes, we don't get the Red Belly Blacks here Ozzie or should I say I have never seen one here. With the weather warming up I should start seeing a few on the roads. We lived in a remote area of the Southeast coastal area of WA for many years, saw allot of snakes. Snakes and Bees were always our unwanted guests, I prefer the snakes though.
