gooseneck ?

Post by nipper »

The aluminium plug (gooseneck?) at the mast end of the boom where the tack is meant to clip in has snapped on one side, I havent started looking, but if anyone knows where I could get a new one I would love to hear from you.

Mate not a problem I'll just repost a thread from a year or so ago

Bit of news , after a temp repair on my mast step last year I decided to take Ian's advice and get a new one off Bob Keeley before Bob retires , he is 86. What a national treasure. Spent a good 20 minutes chatting to him. I ordered a complete fitting with plug, step and pin. My plug is ok but starting to pit so I now have a spare and may replace it next year.

Just on that subject , Bob reminded me to use Duralac if replacing the mast plug as there will be a metallurgical difference between the aluminium in the mast and the plug and you can get electrolytic reaction between them . Even a few layers of adhesive plastic between the step and the fibreglass deck is recommended for this reason.

Thanks Bob

Bit of relevant trivia . It was mentioned on "the other place" that Bob was the business partner of Robb Legg of RL yachts fame.
