Aldi heads up

Post by Ozzie »

Current aldi cattle dog for saturday has caravan stuff and shows some neat fold up buckets and plastic tubs which may be of use to space conscious TS peoples. I have a folding nylon bucket in the 563 , does save room and we wash up in it. Also an apparently 12 volt tv with dvd for those who like luxury on their Investigators. I assume you would need a decent battery to run it though.Usual disclaimers blah, blah.

If you are interested the saturday Aldi cattle dog has "camping time" featuring the famous nesting cookware that was discussed with about 127 posts and 10340 views on TSP, yes those figures are correct 8-) . Its a marathon read that Mat was embarrassed to start but turned out to go forever. For the record I have the one pictured , or it looks identical and its chief value to me is it fits, self contained, in the little depression under the quarter berth. It all nests inside itself including the kettle and has its own cloth mesh bag. Also the little two litre kettle is perfect for a cuppa for two and does not take much to boil even on metho.

Its only light aluminium but for the occasional use such as ours it is perfect for a small ts like the 563... usual disclaimers, blah blah. For 3 bucks you can also get a folding shovel which I also have on board .... bought it to test my theory of digging a groove into the beach to take the keel to dry out upright, have not tested it yet but it has come in handy occasionally.

Heads up again it's Aldi camping time and the ubiquitous nesting cookware is up plus some other nice bits and pieces that would have use in Investigating.

Usual disclaimers, but I should buy shares in the bloody company . I am still surprised nobody else in retail has latched onto the business model ....once a year specials on well made goods that basically sell out on five minutes.??? Seems a no brainer.

Last week another find. I have been updating my old crepe torches with Cree LED stuff from Aldi, even some of the standard Led torches I've had for a while. Last sat I got a 3D cell Cree LED baton style torch for camping etc . The thing is outstanding . Aluminium , not plastic and puts out car headlight light levels from three d cells and a single Cree LED.. They are not waterproof but I think I would like one on the boat anyway for emergencies. I have my dolphin single LED waterproof torch to comply with RMS regulations but the Aldi CREE is an amazing piece of kit for $19.99 or about a third of the equivalent Maglite torch. Has three modes 100%, 50% and strobe to attract attention. If your local store has any left they are a bargain.

This weekend is the Aldi snow gear sale . Several years ago at the suggestion of someone on tsp I bought some of their ski pants with built in braces and back piece for winter sailing and fishing . They have been very good for that purpose and very cheap at the price of $50, particularly when compared to brand name salopettes marketed at sailors .

Though not gortex or any of that other fancy material they are very warm and comfy . Certainly warm enough for any weather I'm likely to be sailing in. They are water resistant and fairly rain proof from my experience . The ones I had had zippers in the right places for easier putting on.

I assume the jackets are ok too if they are sourced from the ame manufacturer but I have an aldi tradie jacket I inherited from my last job which is up to the task and is flouro orange and reflective so I don't need another one . Just make sure if you buy a jacket they are big enough to go over a Pfd or snug enough to go under one.

Usual disclaimers blah blah.

These are on special this week . I have a slightly smaller size running my lights which works ok but it's getting old.. Not sure about it if I add in depth sounder so I may take this opportunity to upgrade. This seems a reasonably good price for a deep cycle agm. Oz batteries has 45ah for $143.

Usual disclaimers
