Then again, if you want a moored boat, for the same money you can buy a 24ft keelboat these days. The Marauder 24 is by the same designer and is the bigger brother to the Investigator. The biggest version is the Marauder 27 which is available second hand for around $10k if you can find one. However, the running costs for a 27 footer are a lot more than an Investigator 563.
On my travels on gumtree this came up. For those who may not have seen them this is boat Ian mentions above. Moderately priced too. Family resemblance is unmistakable.

Great thread and info on mooring,

Just wondering roughly how long could a 1563 stay in the water without anti-fouling paint before fouling becomes a problem? (eg the barnacles)

Cheers

Really has not alot to do with time in the water its more to do with the water conditions. A very short period in tropical salt water could be the same as years in freshwater - that's primarily the reason for tropical antifoul paints. If the salinity in the lake where I'm moored stays very low (due to rain) then I only get slime which I can wipe off with a sponge but as soon as we get dry weather very soft barnacle starts to form on things like the stainless steel rudder box cheeks - again I can wipe off with a scourer (I haven't antifouled for 4 years). Also the sun can effect growth on the hull. Boats that are moored fore and aft rather than swing get more growth on one side than the other. Areas such as the centreboard and case which are more difficult to access are more susceptible to more growth simply because they are harder to clean properly in the water.
