Seaglass AreoRig

A technical article , but no relevance to investigators just bit of boat dreaming here....

While surfing the world of boats last night I came across this interesting setup. I have read about wing sails but this combines the pivoting action of a wing sail with a conventional Marconi rig ...more or less.

I then had to see one in action. This was on YouTube.

Only problem is you need a mast on steroids to hold the thing up.

Not to mention that massive boom sweeping over our rear deck Ozzie!
Interesting idea though. I like the simple age old junk rig as used by one of my favourite small boat voyagers Roger Taylor. (thanks for the original reference Peter)

How is the new boat going Mark?

I was also interested to see Ming 2 . I think his hatch setup on no 1 was brilliant, the ultimate waterproof setup. But I can sympathise with his getting older and needing better access.

Ozzie, the Sonata 7 is a great boat perfect step up from an I563. Spent quite a lot of time getting it set up for single named sailing in BB as opposed to holiday cruising in Gippsland lakes. So very happy and is surprisingly fast hits 6-7 kts with modest breezes.

Hi Mark, I’m currently shopping for a TS. The short list includes the investigator as well as a Sonata 7. I want to be able to sail and set it up single handed. I’m also keen to be able to beach my boat. Can you beach the investigator?
I’d be interested to get some advice from you regarding these matters.
