sailing the brisbane river

Post by atles »

HI all :)
took a trip up the brisbane river today,

started out at Colmslie Reserve, 400 Lytton Road, Morningside, Also known as Colmslie Recreation Reserve.
it has Barbecue - electric, Barbecue - wood, Car park, Dog off-leash area, Fishing platform, Picnic area, Playground, Sporting field, Toilet, Water
Boat ramp facilities are Double boat ramp, Single pontoon very hard to go off at low tide as i found out with the investigator
but if it not dead low your ok

when lurching your boat just try not to go pass the blue paint mark on the side of the pontoon at low tide
or your drop off in to the brisbane river
well you hit some small hand size rock then the river .
it,s a good ramp i would give it a 7 out 10

now the brisbane river flows at 4 knots so best try and pick a day when your not going against the tide
or it will take you 2 hr to get to south bank not one lol .
sailing is ok if you do not mind putting your sails up and down as there are dead spots
today we had just the main up to help and took it down in the dead spots

getting under the bridges is ok
just remember to look for the light on the side of the bridges
which will be off in the day time this is the heights point .

a investigator will make it under the story bridge, pacific motorway and the goodwill bridge
DO NOT TRY THE VICTORIA BRIDGE investigator mast is too high  .
when you get to south bank go pass the city cat pontoon and their are two pontoons for public boats
right along long side south bank
stay as long as you like there are no time limit on them
they have ramps that go up and in to south bank go for a swim have lunch then back on the boat.

a very good day out!! always something to see
the back of rich houses :) restaurants, city cats
the captains of the city cats always give you a wave and of course the city!! .
i am going to have to do it at night soon for a nice night sail .

Nice trip report mate. We've travelled the BR a few times by cat and it's a great trip. When we next head off around oz I'd like to do it again in our small boat, don't know Ill ever get the 563 up there though. I like Brisbane a lot now . Previous to going up there for Expo 88 it was always just a place I went through ( and frequently got lost in) on the way to Fraser island or points north and to be honest thought it was a dump. I think expo was the best thing that ever happended to Brisbane and since then we go there a fair bit , see the tennis , visit friends who have moved there or go on the cat. Looks like they have recovered from the floods. That was a Barry Crocker for sure.

If they could work out a way of changing the water colour in the river it would be perfect ;) .

Keep the trip reports up . More pics , more pics !

TSCOM has the same trip report of the same pair of feet against the same background every week . Not very exciting really. :P
