I thought I posted this yesterday in tech but I must be slipping and did not hit the submit.
I'll post it here as tomorrow is the last day.
Being happy with my LED nav lights I have bought LED trailer lights from WW on special for $29 ...till tomorrow . They are well made and are waterproof Narva , same brand as my old bulb ones and after cursing bulbs for my whole adult life are worth the plunge at that price. There is no white light spill window for your number plate so you will need another white light for that. Also on cheap are the red / green Nav lights in led for $24 . I got a set of those for my poly fishing boat.
LEDs are wonderful . Overnighted on australia day and just switched them on and on they came. No bending and cleaning contacts , cursing and swearing .

Re: Led lights
Hi Ozzie, they must be the ultimate lights to have aboard
Just bought a 360 degree LED anchor light for $40 and wired it up on a 5m 3mm x 2 cable to an existing switch with fuse. It's got a 250mm pole base but for now plan to hang it to the back stay or boom end when anchoring overnight and leave it on all night. It draws just 0.6 W and is very bright has the 2nm rating, but shouldn't use much battery power.
All the other lights are still bulbs..but they probably won't be on for long. Just one question - what are the best size fuses to install? There were fuses of 15-20A in there, thought that a bit excessive, so replaced them with 10A ones but not sure about it, guess its a 10A system?

Re: Led lights
Andrew, i took advice from my brother in law who is a instrument fitter / leco and from memory I used 5 amp but I'm not sure. If they were they have not blown yet. LEDs are very low draw so a small fuse is ok . Better too low than to high. I'll check next time I'm out on the mooring .
Apart fron installing LED nav lights and interior lights last haulout I also put led bulbs in the mast and infrequently used stern light. I painted the contacts with Vaseline on a recommendation and they also have been trouble free. I believe it was the heat in the old incandescent bulbs that constantly built up insulating deposits in the fittings. In the event of a mast light failure I keep a portable steaming light to tape up on the mast and use with the stern light to give all round light for motoring at night which I do quite often in summer. Lake Mac is like Pitt St at night in summer and being highly visible is a necessity .

Re: Led lights
WW have a new cattledog out now with some other LED goodies. Im tempted by this search light..
https://www.whitworths.com.au/main_item ... item=31820
I have an old bulb searchlight but now that Ive downsized my battery it makes sense to go all LED
Also looking at one of these..
https://www.whitworths.com.au/main_item ... item=49149
..which I may mount right behind the pintail bolts giving me access to the top ones if I need to replace them and solving the problem of a cover.
They also have a fixed all round LED white light anchor/motoring on for $14 . Im getting one for the poly boat
LEDs are becoming so reasonable in cost now. Originally they were prohibitively expensive. I even have replaced many of my main lights at home with LED bulbs as the compact flouro bulbs go .My whole lounge room, overhead and all lamps are now less than 60w total .

Re: Led lights
Hello all, Back again, we have been off in Canada and Alaska will post a Pic in another thread when I get time . I went in last week and picked the above LED goodies. Spot light is good gear. My brother in law bought one online recently and paid more than the WW sale price. If anyone is wanting stuff from this sale it finishes on the 11 th . The parrot beak nippers are also on sale which I had bought previously and the small ones will cut 563 size standing rigging if anyone is after one. Usual disclaimers blah blah.
Will post a review on lights when I fit them.
