An epic voyage begins

Post by Mark »

All

Some of you follow the activities of Webb Chiles the solo circumnavigator. Well he is at it again in a boat not too much larger than our I563's.
Here is is press release of today and you can follow his journey through the links at he end of his piece. Go well Webb you are a brave person.

Press release begins:

Webb Chiles, 72, five time circumnavigator and the first American to round Cape Horn alone, sailed from San Diego, California, this morning on his 24’ sloop, GANNET, beginning what will, time and chance permitting, become his sixth voyage around the world.

GANNET is a Moore 24, the first ultra-light displacement class built in the United States. Moore 24s have often been successfully raced from California to Hawaii, but no one has ever before attempted to circumnavigate in one.

Chiles will sail first to Hilo, Hawaii; then make his way across the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand where he will decide whether to continue west or turn east for Cape Horn in 2015.

You can follow GANNET’s track at http://my.yb.tl/gannet; and learn more at www.inthepresentsea.com.

Here is a podcast on Furled sails with an interview with Webb Chiles (pron. Chill-ess). This has no new episodes but is worth listening to the older casts if you like people talking about sailing /boating stuff. I do.

Re: An epic voyage begins - His website

Post by cruiserpete »

Hi all,

Webb Chiles has a fantastic website and ...... believe it or not ALL of his previous books are available for free as a PDF. he mentions that his continuing royalties from Kindle allow him to publish his books in PDF for free. I could not locate a donation button as it would still be nice to drop him some money for his generous offer.

I thought it best to direct you all to his link rather than freely post up the PDF's... the least we can do is visit his website, read his poems, articles, stories and yes, download from there.
