price check on a 563,, brisbane
price check on a 563,, brisbane
hi, I have just found this site and find it interesting as I am looking at an Investigator 563 at the moment in Brisbane. asking price of $8,000 and negotiable of course. it is in what seems quite original clean condition overall and sits on a good trailer, 8 hp Johnson. unnamed and not sure of sail number if any multi coloured mainsail by the look of it. is this in the ballpark of what this type of boat sells for or do you know of any that might be for sail at the moment worth looking at, thanks I can e-mail photos if anyone can help valueing this potential purchase,,,,, terry 0403369595

Do a search of the forum on price and check the For Sale section.

Re: price check on a 563,, brisbane
Welcome aboard Terry . $8k for a good 563 with no work to be done is probably quite reasonable although everyone over on Trailer Sailor Place keeps saying that the market is depressed and there are bargains to be had floating in your soup if you look.
Personally I think a fixer is a fixer and if you want and can only afford such a boat it should be cheap. If everything is done already and you have a good outboard it's probably worth the extra dough. Recently a member here paid 2.5 k for a reasonable boat. So it's a sometimes the luck of the draw. I might suggest two things . One, bung a wanted ad on gumtree and see what turns up. I got my Investigator that way and it was a half fixer with little use although it took a while before my ad bore fruit. Good thing about a wanted is that your not competing with other bidders and you may snare one that's been undercover for ten years with little use as I did.
Second thing go to TSP and look at the TS s for sale section , maintained well by Coops who's also a member here . It's a good record of prices for TS s including investigators.
Sometimes presenting the seller with evidence of the prices onthe net can indicate to them their price may be a tad high. When shopping for cars over the years I always walk in with my clip board with all the current ads I'm looking at . I don't exactly thrust it at the seller but If I make an offer I can say " well I'm basing it on the current market, these are what I'm looking at "
Good luck and hope you get one and become an active forum member, it's getting a fraction quiet lately.
One day we'll get another member on lake Mac

Re: price check on a 563,, brisbane
thanks peter and ozzie, I did look at the forum and have seen a few posts on gumtree, ebay and boat sales etc. i'm looking to find one in quite good condition with some cosmetic work to be done, as this will be my intro to trailer sailers, I am looking at what I can get for around $6,000, and possibly a little more after I receive my tax assessment. I may look at posting a wanted ad but in the meantime will inspect what is available locally similar in style to the 563's... a sunmaid 20 is listed on gumtree that might be worth a look... any thoughts on how they compare to one another ?? once again thank you for your reply and hopefully talk again soon,,, terry

The Sun maid is the big sister of the Investigator. Bigger' but also a lot heavier. You need a tow vehicle capable of handling around 1800 kg from what I am told.

yeah i only paid $2500 for mine had to do a little work to bring it up to scratch i have seen them on gumtree from $3500 that need work . It is worth to keep checking gumtree daily you should be able to find something in your price range there was one up near Bundy on gumtree for $7500 ono not that long ago didn't look to bad on a decent trailer don't know if its still for sale. Good luck in finding one and when you do you won't be sorry they are a good little sail boat i love mine.
