Re: Centreboard angle

Hi Sean,

Raking the centerboad back helps control the helm.( it reduces weatherhelm) . I often lift it right back and/or up when sailing to windward if I have good boat speed and always up when down wind. I have marks on the lift rope to tell me where it's at.

Re: Hand swages from 2013

I hand swage my own rigging for the 563 Ozzie, haven't had a problem with it at all. For what the wire costs and the swages, its easy to replace standing rigging once a month if you wanted. Some may spend more on lotto or beer than that. My sails would never break the rigging or pull the swages . ( ...

Re: up coming trips for summer were next are you sailing

Had a great sail on the weekend In Geographe bay, Got hammered by 25 knt winds for our return leg back to the Marina. Started out as a dead down wind sail home but a wind shift put us on a broad reach. Two reefs in the main and the jib up had us planning at 7.6 knots,,, and then as the bullets or gu...

Re: Yarralumla sail-past

Looks like nice smooth sailing Sean, I have never had a sail on a calm waterway with a good breeze, thanks for posting.
With regards to rowing, if I was in your situation I might have a go at sculling, always looks magical.

Re: up coming trips for summer were next are you sailing

Had a good 20 n/mile sail on Sunday at Garden Island. Wind started off easterly at around 18knts so we hoisted the main with a 2nd reef and my brand new jib and had the 563 flying along. The wind slowly died down so I eventually hoisted the full main. I managed to get knocked by a strong gust which j...

Re: storm jib dimension could give you a problem

I guess I thought I had already expressed a more detailed opinion in another thread. http://www.investigator563.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=694 I did however mention leaving the jib and learning to bring the boat under control with sail trim, reefing the main being part of sail trim. My commen...

Re: storm jib dimension could give you a problem

Storm jibs are for storms, I don't go sailing in storms. 16-18 knots I want my jib powered up to go to windward, especially in chop. 20+ knots I keep the same jib up Learn how to trim your sails to control the boat, sail changes aren't necessary on a 563 in moderate to strong winds. Use your storm j...

Re: Becalmed, Mayhem, and a Maintenance Warning

The Jib downhaul is the red line running on top of the cabin. It goes to a turning block at the headstem then straight up to the jib halyard shackle. To douse the jib, let the jib halyard free and pull on the red downhaul to bring the head of the sail down the forestay. Then cleat off the down haul ...
