Re: Beaching an investigator.
Hi Ross, Most of what you have asked can be found by searching in the "sailing" and "technical" forums. I believe beaching the Investigator results in about a 30 degree heel which is not good for sleep but not a risk to the hull assuming no rocks etc. The keel or actually the piv...

Re: Leaking cockpit drain tubes
Good idea Peter about using light cloth to bond the cockpit sole to the inside of the tubes. Could also do that on the transom side as well which concerns me as very hard to access the interior side of that join. However I resprayed the the transom with gelcoat and spent hours polishing it so will o...

Re: Leaking cockpit drain tubes
I did a post about the fix but I see it was not saved. For those interested I used a low viscosity Cyanoacrylate glue (Zap) to fill the very small gaps between the tubes and fibreglass cockpit well moulding until it would not accept anymore. I then managed to get a reasonable size fillet of polyuret...

Spinnaker
Hi everyone, I have an old spinnaker with my boat which is u/s and I would like to replace it. To save costs I'm wondering if there are any popular racing classes that use spinnakers similar to the size to suit this boat. Often keen racers replace sails when they are a little out of shape and sell o...

Re: Leaking cockpit drain tubes
I did a leak test today by flooding the cockpit and not one drop of water so am happy with that. Lets hope it continues that way. I suspect there is some movement in the cockpit well when loaded with crew which is likely to break a glue bond after time. For instance I had a creaking noise coming fro...

Leaking cockpit drain tubes
Hi all, I hope you can help. I have leaking cockpit drain tubes, at least on the cockpit sole side. I had water in the bilge so I plugged the drains and filled the cockpit with water and saw water dripping under the cockpit. They appear to be a simple piece of PVC pipe that joins the cockpit low poi...

Re: Mast step position
Hi Andrew. Thanks for your response. All the reviews suggest it is well balanced too. Maybe they changed it because the sails were getting old and draft aft. There have been other changes to this boat such as relocating the mainsheet traveller to the companionway which i have reverted back. There ar...

Mast step position
Another issue. I think i will have repaired and refurbished the entire boat when I'm finished! I'm now sure this boat had close to zero maintenance for quite awhile. Anyway i was raising the mast today and was thinking about the mast step. I have some cracks around,it and there is some delamination....

Transducer location
Hi all, along with all the repairs and modifications I am doing I want to add a plotter and sounder to my vessel and am pondering suitable locations for the transducer. Ideally it would be in front of the keel however that goes too far forward and I have foam filled some of it in anycase and fibre g...

Re: Average speeds
Thanks Ozzie and Ray for getting back to me. Think I'll base my planning on 4 knots.
