We have just returned from our fifth South Seas cruise trip, this one on Voyager of the Sea and our first itinerary to the region that took in Fiji where we did some interesting boating and snorkelling, more on that in a later post.
When ship cruising we usually opt for fixed time dining where we sit with the same people each night usually picked by the cruise organisers to be in your general age group. We have met some great characters and interesting folks in this manner both in Oz and Europe including a former CEO of Transport NSW, a famous tv writer and many others who we have gotten to know well over the ten to fourteen days of the average trip. Everyone talks and relaxes as equals as we’re all on holidays.
Anyway, bugger me if we were not sharing a table (among the 3180 passengers on board ) with a former Investigator owner Brian, an exceptionally nice bloke with a charming wife who was one time owner of “Trust Me”. Brian could not remember the number but said it had two hinges on the hatch and small windows so I knew it was a later model. We don’t bother subscribing to the onboard internet but I’ve now discovered of course that it comes up in Rays list as number 148 only five after mine 143. Brian recalled he bought it from Lake Mac but it had been a Sydney boat and one time registered at Glengarry and was used in the Gippsland lakes I think he said.
Naturally we swapped a few stories and not surprisingly he had nothing but praise for the Investigator’s performance and stability. He owned and sold Trust Me before the forum but I’ve invited him to join up to maybe track down his boats history before and since via Rays excellent detective work. Small world eh? Hope we hear from you Brian.

Here is a photo of his Investigator. He made the frame when the centreboard was refurbished.

Thanks for info gents. I am hoping Brian signs on as he may be able to throw a few more pieces into the Investigator history files. He reversed my story and went from the Investigator to a large power boat to accomodate family.

Erm .... just took a look at the other posts on Trust Me and it came from Blairgowrie not Glengarry and sailed on Port Phillip Bay . When you’ve had a sherbet or two on a cruise and you’re talking to another sailor, Blairgowrie sounds just like Glengarry coupled, with the fact that on the cruise I was reading an old seafarers yarn called “The Boats of the Glenn Carrig”
“Why don’t you see an audiologist “ you say!
I did.
He told me I was deaf.
The Boats of the 'Glen Carrig'

This is available as a free eBook from Gutenberg. I challenge anybody to read it and not have to look up the sailing lingo. It was as written in the early 1900s but it’s set in the mid 1700’s. You really need to know your top gallant from your Chrysler Galant!
