As far as I am aware the rule in NSW still is that you only need to register your 563 IF you have a larger than 5HP outboard or it occupies a mooring or marina berth. Otherwise you are ok. Also you cant operate it over 10knots under power but that is not going to be an issue unless you have some kind of hidden alien drive inside your 5HP :? hp

Different interstate.

Registration of Vessels
A person must be at least 16 years of age to register a vessel in NSW. Registrations are granted on an annual basis and the following vessels must be registered with NSW Maritime when occupying NSW navigable waters:

Any commercial vessel
Power-driven vessels that are powered by an engine with a power rating of 4.0 kilowatts or more (greater than 5hp)
Any power-driven or sailing vessel of 5.5 metres or longer
Every vessel subject to a mooring licence (includes marina berths)
Personal watercraft (PWC).

Hence The Investigator 563 is marginal, but being more than 5.5m (just) you should register it. Check and see if you have a boatcode plaque, as this is the first thing you need.

erhm ..... if you get the plate and the issuer is not to accurate you may get a reading of less than 5.5
