Christmas again.
Greetings all. As an old Investigator owner and the emphasis being on the “old” this year I’ve been thinking back to the 21 Xmases we have had Spritzig II. Despite all good plans to do so we have not spent a Christmas Day on her. Boxing days yes but not Xmas. As she’s on the trailer in the yard I plan to remedy that this year. I promise to post photographs to prove it. I did something like this next pic about 19 years ago on the old MSN forum and as it’s my last year of ownership I’ll post it again.
In a throwaway world, satisfaction is an aberration these days. This little boat has been part of our lifestyle for over two decades. Lake Mac is a sailing community. When I moved lakeside nearly 50 years ago everyone was in some kind of sailing related activity or at least owned a boat. The 563 has made us feel part of that even though we’ve never sailed at club level. It’s always a great conversation starter. Mention it and you’re off.
We have not felt the need to upgrade as she has fulfilled our needs. We will miss her when she goes but I’m confident she will go on to give several more families or owners the same fulfilment she has done for us.
As already mentioned here, I’m hanging around as moderator, hopefully so I can throw in any advice to help. It’s with knowledge often gained from total screwup’s or sometimes trial and error but it’s all been mostly fun.
I’m dedicating this Xmas post to my first mate and little sailing buddy Jack, the fox terrier who sadly passed away last week at 17 after growing up on the boat. Mrs Ozzie and myself will miss him terribly. He was a total character and a stable footed sailor and when called would hold fast his spot on the tacks as we rocked him from side to side .
RIP little mate .
Thanks as usual to Geoff, the moderating crew and to Andrew, our man in FNQ, all our posters and readers….we know you’re out there, the Speedo gives you away.
A shout out to my old mate Emrys. I hope your 563 went to a good home and we’ll catch you in one on the Sydney “Raid” group videos when you downsize. Fair winds mate.
Stay safe this Xmas on the water and the street.
It’s not goodbye from him.
Ozzie and crew.
Ps get your wife a 563 for Xmas. ……..mine.
