Peter, I wondered if that was what it was, especially as it looks like something non-standard fitted to the bow roller. Attachment point I assume.

Potentially some form of Cunningham?

Could be that too. I wondered if anyone had similar. Fun guessing. Very tidy boat.

Thanks Peter for the additional photos of Minnow. She is definitely a drop keel model so probably migrated to WA sometime in her life. I've noticed a couple of drop keels among the WA boats. This boat is also the early stern version.

Yes Ray. We're you aware that there were new moulds produced by the NSW factory early in 1979 as the old moulds were destroyed by fire. Sail NO 114 ( my boat) was the first boat that came out of the new moulds which was ordered in march 1979. I wonder if this is when the new stern came into being ?
Also interesting is the fact that Minnow 's front hatch seems to be a single hinge one. I wonder what year that changed to the 2 hinges ?
Cheers

Hi Peter,

Ray gives some thoughtful insight into change points in this topic, although as he said in this current one, he has altered his assumed timeline for the fire-caused remould based on your relaying Spindrift's first owners input.

And I forgot to put the link in...

Hi all, I have been able to contact the seller of Minnow and have asked him for a description of the piece mounted to the lower side of the mast. Hopefully I will have an answer soon and will post here. Cheers

Peter,

Can you get a sail number and previous boat name/s if known? That would add to our database of knowledge.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link to history of I563, its a good read. Ray's timeline's a gem. It's good to know where our "adopted baby's" were born ("Teria" 1975-1976), and details on how they were built (like the subbie-surfies disapearing when the waves were up, the multiple fiberglass moulding contractors and boatbuilders moving factory to chase the best rents) :)

Thanks for posting Peter, those are good articles by David Harvey, what adventures they had sailing around sometimes stormy coves, estuaries and bays back in the day. Using solid seamanship and rig at a time when there were fewer electronic resources to tap into.
