Overnight on port hacking

So had two days out on Port Hacking with my partner and two girls. Light winds on day one but managed to get some sailing in. Was good to have the light winds as it was the first time sailing with my kids, 2 out of 3. Pulled a mooring in southwest arm which is a beautiful spot where you are 360 degree surrounded by national park.

Had noticed it previously to be a problem but with such light winds the top batten was protruding from the back of the sail and was catching on the rear stay.

Day 2 saw better winds but once again light so managed a little sailing before coming back in and getting the boat home.

Removed the batten and trimmed 28mm off before reinstalling.

Interesting batten setup Watto mine are sewed into place. What do others have??

Great to hear of your overnighting, nothing beats waking to sunrise on the water. How did you all sleep ? I find as I get older I don’t sleep that well on the boat but that’s pretty much anywhere. It a lot quieter since I silenced the mast light wires.

Only my top full batten is not sewn in. I was able to call the actual sailmaker or this main even though it wasn’t new, I’d recently bought a headsail from him and discussed the fact he’d made the headsail, who knows when.

I do need to invest in some better cushions and possibly extending the front berth down the guts a few inches. I’m 6’4 and mrs is 6,’1.

Port Hacking / South West arm one of my favourite sailing spots around Sydney.
Sounds like a good trip and well done with two girls and partner on board.
Almost after each trip I have a list of broken things to fix or changes to my boat.
A routine part of sailing I guess.

Emrys,

Yep... mrs sat on the front window and cracked it, whle doing something up front dodging sheets. Every outing the list get added to.

It was fairly cold outside over night and with 4 bodies inside it was nice and cosy even with the companion way only having the bottom half fitted. I did note a lot of condensation on the pop top in the morning, unsure of the fix for that.

Will do Watto.

Don't you or anyone else ever worry about posting in the wrong forum, it's not always obvious. Like General Discussion and Technical Articles - there is a lot of crossover there, sometimes hard to know what should go where.

The other mods and I will be shuffling a few topics about in the future to classify a bit better if we can.
