Splice or tie (boom vang)
Splice or tie (boom vang)
I’m in the process of building a boom vang using some 6mm spectra. Just wondering on opinions or whether to tie the rope to the becket or if I should have a go at splicing a loop to the end of the rope? Watching some videos in confident I could splice successfully however the mrs was a rope access tech so her knots are pretty good (far from my double knots)

Got the rope through each other just can’t manage to get the fiddle down the guts. Abort or just barrel it off or whip it?

I find that whipping works well. I finish the whipping with a coating of "whip-end dip".
Here's my boom vang.

Cheers ray,
So you only whipped it? Pretty sure my splice is structurally sound and the whipping is just to tidy up the end.

Watto,
I first use a needle to "sew" the two ends together with stiches under the whipping. Probably not as strong as a proper splice, but I've never had one come apart on me (yet).
