Just a bit extra in this subject. There was a Facebook ( i dont use it) news item a while back my daughter told me of where one of the Nbn big wigs said low speed Nbn customers could still only expect similar service to adsl. It seems that unless I want to pay for the high delivery speed I will just have to lump it .

I would just be happy to get constant supply of the low speed rate we pay for . Since last visiting this post we have had two major drop outs with no service for hours at a time.

Last week we had the conversion of our home phone line to the Nbn fibre . When Telstra rang to arange the change I queried it based on my misgivings over the Internet supply. He pointed out it was optional to change but if it did it now it was free....if I waited till it was compulsory ...$3000. Ok nothing like options eh?

Last funny on communications. Last week I was at a local Westfield shopping centre and was meeting my daughter for lunch. The charger in my car had gone to god and my mobile was going flat. No problem , I thought I'll just ring her from a public phone in the centre. Now I then realized I didn't know where there was a public phone .....tried the taxi rank...no ... The food Hall..... Went to the information desk and was told by the girl there is none , zilch , zero . She kindly allowed me to use the desk phone but I was mildly shocked to think that in a shopping centre half a suburb wide there is no public phone.

I'm getting on . Technology like old age has crept up on me and I didn't even notice . On the way home I stopped nearby for fuel and out of curiosity I asked the consol operator in the servo if they had a red phone.

"not for years sir"

I live in country Victoria and we got the Labor government version, pre-NBN. Everything goes to the house WIFI and is beamed to and from somewhere. It is great!

My school across the road has its own fibre optic cable that runs directly to the nearest tower and this pre-dated the Rudd-Gillard version by a number of years. It's fabulous too.
