It's interesting how market forces work . I went to Charlestown KMart for the first time in two years yesterday and the boating section they had is now gone. It has an extended fishing section with the only thing related to boats being JW PDFs really aimed at rock fishos. By the way their soft plastic baits are very cheap, heaps better than bee cee ef prices.

Bunnys as mentioned have a small boat section related mainly to ss hardware and stuff that has other applications that are not specifically boat related. It would be a shame if online sales eventually erode boating retail to the point where there are only a few retail specialty shops and they are few and far between.this is what happened to model building.

As a kid I was a keen model builder graduating from Airfix kits to designing and scratch building my own balsa and tissue control line and free flying aircraft as a teen. As I had daughters I did not have much call for passing these skills on but I encouraged my girls to play with Lego. Last year I went to buy my ten year old nephew a model plane for Xmas. Kmart...zip , toys are us ..."not anymore sir" had to go to one of only two specialty stores in the whole hunter region to get a basic model car kit , years ago there were ten , one of which I worked in as a sixteen year old in the school holidays . It was populated by customers like me, old blokes reliving their youth or buying a kit for their son ,grandson ot nephew. Speaking of kits most radio kits have two pieces a body and a wing :D And I'm sure 90% of radio aircraft these days are readymade helicopters and peek a boo quad copters with cameras

I like reading articles about wooden boat building and restoration but I guess that will become a dying art too in time .

Lego boats anyone?
