New Tiller
New Tiller
Given a new tiller by an Investigator friend. It’s a beauty crafted from layers of timber and varnished. I was wary of practicing my bush carpentry on it. A bit like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa. Anyway I had a go and made a lifting hinge and self-steering bracket on it. What I like about his design is it rises above my knees when steering. My old tiller was straight and in the way. The old parliament hinge also broke eventually. This time I used a bolt through alloy angle and the timber arm. See how it goes. Like to know your tiller types.

Re: New Tiller
Mate, that is a work of art. It needs to be displayed on a coffee table or somewhere not out in the elements on a trailer sailer.
No seriously it looks very practical, mine curves up slightly but still hits my knees plus no hinge.

Re: New Tiller
That's a great job Emrys and very practical. I love how the auto pilot mounts, that it hinges and that it is above the knees when using it. Looks perfect to me, very well done. Cheers

Re: New Tiller
Would you have the plans for the whole rudder as I need to make a fold up one like yours. If you do, it would be very much appreciated
