Re: Trailer re-build and re-design
Long time no see --!! custom trailer building is a far longer process for an first timer than i ever imagined, allot of thinking before doing required, plus life in general wedges its way in there too.
Got the trailer frame and drawbar fully braced. Used the 12mm rod ladder type bracing on the main frame and 1" flat bar stringer underneath the lengthened draw bar.

Have a good chance to get right into the project lately, so more progress soon..
Cheers

Re: Trailer re-build and re-design
Nice work Andrew. You’ve done a top job on the trailer. If my welding skills were not so “meat and potatoes “ I would attempt to repair my trailer or build another but I’m afraid I’ll have to call the experts. I have managed to finally add the sealed LED lights I bought as a special from WW last year and its nice not having to clean bulbs and wiggle wires when I use the trailer but I’d not trust my welding with anything as heavy as an Investigator on it.
My mate who has a Cruise Craft Outsider fishing palace just bought a new tandem trailer to replace his original...$6grand .. made my eyes water. At least I found some replacement 13inch wheels for mine at $20 each
Keep up the blog. Great resource.

Re: Trailer re-build and re-design
Gday all,
Thanks for the encouragement and help with this, its not easy DIY and the ~6k pricetag for new trailers reflects this
Eventually updated my blog with some info on the draw bar and wheels/suspension http://teria563.blogspot.com/2019/
Today got the boat back on top of the trailer again! been a long time. (winched the trailer under the stationary blocked up boat) The trailer was unhitched so used the modified tilt which helped/ also the longer drawbar aided this too. still some playing around to do with roller heights, bunk post lengths and keel guides.. the aft keel guides may need some serious surgery to fit better.
Cheers

Re: Trailer re-build and re-design
The frame is galvanized, so just doing the final re-assembly.
Got held up because of threaded bolt and nut on the swing arm, an engineer had to tap them out..(so don't have any threads in the trailer design for hot dipping)
, but trailers not too far off now, work permitting.
Details of the galvanizing, preparation and transporting in here https://teria563.blogspot.com/2019/08/t ... ising.html

Re: Trailer re-build and re-design
The boats sitting on the nearly complete trailer at last ! !! went over to the dark side and posted some photos on the investigator 563 FB page ( its easy to upload from android phone, no file size limit, so the pics are high resolution)
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater
Updated the blog too..https://teria563.blogspot.com/2019/08/t ... embly.html
Re-assembly, trailers theoretically rolling again.!! (not road tested yet)
But....the spare wheel probably floated off my property during the flash flood Tuesday 5th Feb 2019, when about a foot deep of water tore through the flatlands carrying many things away (I found pot plants, buckets, irrigation pipes etc from other properties). Going to use an old caravan wheel for now, final job is to weld a spare tyre mounting bolt to the winch post.
