Whisker Pole
I often sail my boat with a friend who is a very good sailor. He has suggested several improvements to my rig which have all turned out to be beneficial. His latest suggestion was to use a whisker pole when sailing downwind. I've made one but haven't yet put it to the test. I'm not sure if I need to attach it to a topping lift or if I need to use an additional guy. Does anyone else use a whisker pole? How have you rigged it? Here is a picture of the whisker pole that I made. I still need to fit a release cord. I attached saddles for the topping lift and guy but will wait until I test it to see if these are needed.

Re: Whisker Pole
Hi ray,
just try the pole for now. it all depends on what sail you have up
what the wind speed is and direction.
keep it simple. so you can get it down quick.
