G'day,
I think my forestay is not tight enough but I'm not sure. How tight should it be?
Regards, Eximea.
Forestay tension?
Re: Forestay tension?
The answer is a litle bit complicated, because both the shrouds (side stays) and the back stay contribute towards the forestay tension. The ultimate aim is to have enough tension so that the luff of the jib does not sag.
I apply tension with my mast raising rig before tensioning with the backstay.
Also check if you boat has the internal strengthening in the cabin to resist the mast compression. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=84&hilit=mast+compression
The shrouds also need adjusting at the same time. Sail the boat and see how the shrouds behave.

Re: Forestay tension?
thanks Yara, I figured it out after reading your reply. having mostly sailed dingies and not having any tuition when purchasing my investigator, (sail number 60) i didn"t realise it even had back stay. i thought it was just a topping lift. I feel like a bit of a dope now but all is happy sailing from here on. Thanks again
