At least one I563 is still sailing!

Post by Mark »

All

So quiet here on the board I have come to the conclusion that all I563's have been grounded on their trailers or moorings for too long.

This year it has been a few and far sailing event thing for Aminee and me. Weather and other commitments have made it hard to get on the water every week like I have in the past.

But over the last month I have had a couple of good sails here in the bay as we enter the warmer weather patterns which usually mean an afternoon NE usually up to 18-20kts at the bay entrance.

I was out on Thursday the 29th and here is a link to the vid I took. https://youtu.be/KBP1zT2HDkE

I have included two scenes, the morning starting out and the afternoon about 2pm when the NE kicks in. As I said in the vid and on this board before, its the reason I use my storm heady most in the warmer months due to this predictable weather pattern which can serve up mid to late afternoon challenges.

This week we have had King tides and coming in over the bar on Thursday at about 0.15M was a real surfing experience!

Note: I had a reef in for the PM sector. Regardless, it was lovely to be on the water and I relish the challenges a day like this brings.

Best from the bay

Yes, did think things were quiet.
Had 3 weekends on boat on the Myalls already this month.
Was planning this weekend also but after some heavy socialising in Nelson Bay, Thursday and Friday and a bit of rain around this afternoon decided to mow the lawn instead.

I have actually got out to the mooring and began sprucing up Spritzig II for a bit of post Xmas sailing. Have not hoisted any canvas yet but it's a start. Anyway speaking of Xmas , have a good one all and see you back here with fresh ideas and adventures next year. As I always say you are statistically much safer this time of year on your investigator , even if it leaks , has a faulty motor and you are surrounded by sharks, than you are on the roads. So take care.

Merry Xmas and the best for '16.

And thans again Ian B for keeping this forum going for us all.

Wishing all a happy Xmas and New Year with plenty of sailing in 2016.

Wishing also we had not bought an old 1950's house years ago as there is no end to these
damned renovations. Should have bought a live aboard yacht instead but wife would not agree.
Cheers

Yara has not seen the water for over a year. Was working on preparing the house for sale. The idea was to downsize. Turns out that the costs of sell/buy would result in a smaller house in a less desireable neigbourhood, with lots of pain and no gain. So sale cancelled, get the boat going again.

The worst thing you can do is not use a boat. Made the mistake of running the ob till fuel ran out in order to empty the carby. Not a good idea for a 2 stroke. Now she is seized, and maybe that is the end. Have tried all the tricks to free the piston, but as it is stuck at bottom dead centre, all the oil just runs out of the cylinder into the carby.
My o/b mechanic will take a look in the new year. In the meanwhile I plan to use the Honda 2.3 instead.

Anyway, Happy Holidays to all, and lets hear the sailing reports when you return. :-) :D
