Trailer bearing change

Post by Mark »

Hi all

I had a bearing go on my trailer on Tuesday after pulling from water. Thought the photos of repair might be useful for others. Note i only ever move boat 300m each time is use, but i obviously inherited this problem when i bought the boat in 8 months ago.
I had a local mechanic come and do a house call, he and is apprentice did al the work, and very well too.I replaced both bearings on trailer.
first pics the ugly!

I have added a new grease cap which forms and additional level of seal and allows me to pump grease into the bearing i was advised about every 6 months, its spring loaded to when grease breaks down you add more until spring bounces back - note nice outer palstic seal also, these parts are all stainless.

Take a look at an early post in this forum regarding trailer wheel bearings, and you will see that the so called "marine" seal is hopeless.
