Help on fitting a Raymarine AutoHelm ST2000

Post by TheMonk »

Hello all, has anyone fitted an Autohelm Raymarine ST1000/ST2000 to your yacht? I've just purchased one from the US and will expect it in a week or two.

If anyone has any hints on fitting it or photos I'd appreciate the info. Also conecting it up to a Raymarine chartplotter too so any hints there would be good too. John.

Hi John. Yes a number of us have fitted these. I chose to mount mine on the cockpit coaming, using extension pieces on the ram, which I bought from Raymarine at Belrose, not far from my home.
We had a number of photos of the install on the old site. I will post some here shortly.

The mounting on the coaming is best as it can be swung out of the way quickly. Also cable on the outside, so the whole thing does not interfere with cockpit seating, and allows the cockpit hatches to be opened. Clips are all standard boat shop plastic fittings. Note ram extension pieces, they screw in.

Thanks Ian, great, a picture paints a thousand words. I'm not too far away from Raymarine either, the measurements will dictate the extensions and accessories I'll require from them.

I'm gearing her up for my big voyage....Sydney to Pittwater!!

By the way Ian, any info on the IYA yet?

I trust you are not intending to sail offshore at this stage, although Sydney to Pittwater is not that big a leap, but westerlys can blow you out to sea. Easier to trailer the boat to Pittwater!

For the 1000 model the extension length is 200 mm

Thanks Ian for that info. Not quite ready for the big voyage yet, I'll pick my weather carefully. Otherwise it's the Wakehurst Parkway voyage. John

Hello Ian. Re Autopilot, if you see this post can you check something for me? I have gone to WW to order the Extension for the Autopilot through Raymarine and they say the longest extension they have is 153 mm. Is there any chance that this is the length you have?
Thanks John

Edit. Did you buy 2 of the 100mm extensions, would this work?

Yes I bought 2 100 mm ones. They screw together no problem.
