Interesting interior on this Investigator. Noting the round access panels which look very “factory” although people are very clever with such stuff, maybe owner additions .The smaller ones are standard screw in inspection jobs but the other ones are not. Like his step treatment too. May be hiding a sink judging from the water pump.

Ozzie,

The round hatches are factory fitted. This Investigator is #35, only 4 boats before mine which has the same round hatches, so assume that they were standard at the time. (If we had enough data, hatch confiquation in the bunks might be an additional way of dating a boat.)

I like the companionway step. Much nicer than my plain ply one, but the step support (sink?) would limit access to the bildge and under the cockpit floor.

Interesting Ray . Do these round panels seal in any way? I’m wondering how they affect the floatation compartments.

The interior is a moulded part of the bunk top so completely sealed from the compartment below. This is the same construction for other storage spaces in the sealed flotation areas.
What attangement does Spritzig II have for storage under the bunk?

Interesting difference Ray. Spritzig II has sealed depressions under the rectangular panels (varnished ply in my case) on each side about the size of a small kitchen sink, fairly deep, enough to hold my Aldi nesting cookware and food prep stuff on one side and emergency gear on the other. The round depressions you have would hold long screwtop containers very well which is what I keep for dry storage.

The boat for sale appears to have screw in round inspection panels rearward of the round ones under reference. I have been tempted to cut such in myself to see if there was floatation foam optioned into mine which has been suggested on here before was on offer. If not I was going to fill it up with plastic drink bottles which is what my mate who has the Court 750 did. In all probability I’ll never get around to it.

Someone ? mentioned that that on their boat the “airtight” compartments appeared to have water leaks so may not be completely airtight. I really only worry about this stuff at 3am on stormy nights , but then remember I’m insured and go back to sleep :D :D

I had a small amount of water accumulating in my bildge which I eventually found was dribbling out of a screw hole in the starboard flotation chamber. There was a small crack in the fibreglass under the cockpit locker which allowed water to seep into the tank. I took out the offending screw to allow the water to drain and also drilled another hole lower down to drain all the water. I could see that the flotation tank was filled with foam but that there was a small gap between the foam and fibreglass which was where the water had collected. A long story, but this confirmed that the builders had filled the cavity with expansion foam. I would expect that all the Investigators would have been constructed the same way.

On the subject of the screwed in inspection hatch, I noticed that the same setup was in another investigator so maybe not an owner mod. Below are the two photos for comparison. (The built in drawer also looks the same.) The other boat is number #53 and is also in Tasmania. Any guesses as to the purpose of the two screw type inspection hatches?

My bunk storage hatches are same as in photos

Someone previously cut a small hatch from the top off one of the forward bunks, and can confirm that it is full of expanded foam flotation.

sleuthing suggests Teria is an early boat (impression of a removed sail number was "9", also there's a "proto-outboard well" in port locker, the internal moldings for it were installed but no-one cut a hole through the hull ever) Cant find any builders plate or record on the hull anywhere

My cabin side shelf is same as Bultaco's (hull #?), (and that's a nice aft bulkhead shelf set up btw)

This is my refurbished 563, I refurbished her back in 2012/13.
It was a full refurbishment with EVERY nut and bolt removed (except keel, had no access in the garage) It was a year-long refurbishment on weekends and the New 2013 Honda 4stroke sits on an equally impressive Tenob brand, fully SS, 4stoke outboard motor bracket, rated to 25hp. There were no corners cut with the refurbishment including replacing the sealing trim for the same type (took some finding but did locate the sealing trim at a vintage/old car trim specialist)

The side windows were sealed in with 3M-VHB tape and Dow-Corning's high strength-high flexibility silicone. The Dow Corning allowed for excellent adhesion but had a 17% flexibility without breaking the bond, so hot weather could allow stretch in the silicone but it still maintains its integrity. I could not get the Dow-Coring from a store and had to order it directly from the supplier.

Unfortunately, Tony, the previous owner I sold her to passed away a few years ago but I had the pleasure of talking with him numerous times and one of my burning questions to ask was are the windows were still watertight 4 years after I sold her to him, his answer was a resounding, yes not a drop.

Tony was my neighbour from a few houses down and he would admire the refurbishment as he drove past on his way to and from work. On occasions, he would walk down and we would chat about the refurbishment. One day when the refurbishment was nearly done he came down and we chatted about my 563. Then out of the blue, he made me an offer but I declined, it was a great offer but I was refurbishing her to sail her. About an hour later (7 pm) he came back and made me an offer I could not refuse, so at 7.30 pm she was parked in his driveways and I was now the one admiring her on my way to work.
Tony sailed her extensively on the Tamar River in Launceston, Tasmania and kept her on a mooring, only trailering when she needed maintenance.
He really enjoyed the 563 and sailing her on the Tamar and I'm glad she gave him lots of wonderful sailing memories before he passed away.

I'd say, with a little TLC, a 2pack paint job, new nonslip, a few modifications inside, she would be great to go again.
If anyone is interested, hit me up for what I did, I also posted up the refurbishment on our website.

Cheers all,
Pete

Pete,

Good to hear from you again. So what was the purpose of the small screw down hatches?
