Slide out galley

Post by snoopebj »

Bought my boat as a bare club racer 20 years ago. Fitted it out and used and modified it many times since.
This works for us. Pump water tap connected through bilge to 10 litre water bladders under v berths We only use the slide in butane stove at anchor with pop top up. Gas cartridges always stored in ventilated port locker.
*** warning***** the Investigator cockpit lockers are not sealed. Often wondered why I could smell my petrol tank from inside the cabin! I had to spend many happy hours glassing them in😫
My v berth insert doubles as a pull out chart table under the stbd switch panel.

We sleep heads to bow. Porta potti in cockpit under awning -great sitting on potti at 3am watching the moon and stars and listening to the waves lapping 😀

Thanks for the detail photos and comments of the galley and Nav nook, Emrys.

The slide out galley has 2 options, cooker or plastic sink. How do these attach underneath the work top? The galley water pump and turned fiddles look good too.

cheers
Andrew

Rough job but works - mostly Bunnys materials. used 15mm alloy channel strips screwed to alloy angle strips screwed and or glued with liquid nails inside the hull. The ply pull out carriage is approx 10mm ply (I think?) sink hole and splash back cut and covered in an alloy sheet. added the tap and hose (whitworthss) Also cutlery drawer (Bunnys). Plastic 10l sink (supercheapautos) slides into alloy runners screwed/ glued under either side sink hole.
Used old fridge shelving shaped to hold butane stove(Bunnys) with removable bolt. 15mm alloy channel strips then bolted to the frame.
The stove, pans cups, plates etc all normally stored in 3 plastic window cleaning boxes(Bunnys) slid under port cockpit floor.
Another 3 boxes slide under stbd cockpit floor to hold food etc.
Hope you can use something here Andrew.
Has worked for us the past few years.
The fun part of owning a small boat is trying to make every inch of space work.
# Note I never leave any butane gas cartridges in the stove when stored. #

Thanks for the extra info and photos, will study them . Already have the plastic sink and a campmate butane stove. (should be fairly safe if mounted properly, its a ventilated location too..)

Getting sidetracked at "the block" (boat shed) at the moment. (Plumbing a tap into the old van..) luxury!

Great photos and info. Also, I can't believe your great tast in upholstery material. It is exactly the same as what I had in my Roberts 24. Ha ha. I still had some on a roll up until I moved into our new house 12 months ago when I discarded it.

 Not my choice of decor Peter but all the rage in 1970’s . If you visited our house I think you’d recognise similar fittings.
We have ‘nt bothered refurnishing since. Maybe they’ll come back into fashion again like my vinyl record collection did. 😄
