General interest Links and Videos

Post by Ozzie »

General interest is not set in stone just trying to give more techo stuff to the technical section to make things easier to find . Here’s a good one to kick it off I had in my favs and forgot about.

Caution do not open this link above if you have work to do. It is very distracting

A very capable young sailor on a solo atlantic crossing with some great ideas
Dragging behind a long poly line tied to a round fender as an extra (final!) man overboard precaution.
I’ll be using this idea myself when sailing solo offshore.

Thanks Ozzie
That’s real minimalist sailing. I’m back into reading so good opportunity to exercise.
As a complete contrast I’ve been watching this English couple sailing a Hans Christian 48 from UK around Biscay to the Med.
Wonderful boat but high maintenance brass and teak.

Nice boat Emrys. I could live on that...even with a baby

Pilot house ..but ships wheel is still out in the elements . I know it’s got autopilot but why are sailors all masochists

Funny you should mention that, I’ve often thought of making a temporary dodger for the Investigator. They really are a great idea and almost essential for offshore sailing. Here are my favourite sailing couple solving this problem.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w5wYICajlek
For the Investigator It would have to be light ply with perspex windows and easily collapsible and stowed. I experimented with large cardboard templates. Problem is it would have to shelter the companionway at the same time avoiding my cabin top winches and sliding hatch. Tall order if anyone has any ideas.

Wasn’t there a investigator that sailed port hacking who had done a hardtop extension of the pop top.

Well executed hardtop. Most I’ve dove is sketch a few things on the profile from John Crawford site. I’ve occasionally seen fibreglass ute back tops tossed out on the council throw outs and wondered could they be chopped in half and modified. Second idea also on council throw was the fold down shade tops on abandoned prams . A single would give cover only over the companion way but a double ... :D :D my wife however has banned me from bringing home such stuff for future..... read pie in the sky ideas :| for boats . Elon musk probably had this issue and had to hide his stuff.....

Instant dodger...

You can throw the pram away......
