Re: Myall Lake flood 2021

The 1 in 100 year flood is simply a 1% chance that a body of water will reach a certain level during one year. At the beginning of each year there is 1% chance the river will rise to (say) 10 metres. There will also be a 5% chance that the river will reach 8 metres or a 0.05% that the level will be ...

Re: Keel shims

When I first replaced my centre-board (I've done it twice now), it had Laminex glued to either side of the board. I don't know if that was how it came from the factory. It seemed like the strips were used more to reduce friction than to act as spacers. I recall that they were octagonal in shape. I i...

Brett,

Here is picture of Xonophon with the LY205 registration. Looks like your boat to me. Here is an interior shot to help confirm.

Re: keel mechanism jammed

Mambo, The drop keel may have been replaced at some past time. Most have. Yours looks to be in good condition. I would definitely drill another hole to leave a bit more meat between the hole and the edge. I would use stainless steel wire for most of the distance back to the cockpit and join the rope...

Re: keel mechanism jammed

Mambo, Welcome to the forum. Your plate lifting arrangement is certainly unusual. It looks like the work of a previous owner rather than an original factory fitout. Jammed centreboards are usually caused by the plate rusting and swelling in the keel so you are lucky that yours moves freely. The usua...

Re: Cockpit Locker Furniture

Ozzie, Forget about trying to find the gun on gumtree, go for the S/S rivets instead. The packet of rivets I bought was around $20 where as the gun was just under $40. Go figure.

Re: Showcase your Investigator

Thanks Brett. This is the first time I've the boat number painted on the hull without the Investigator Yacht Association (IYA) prefix. I wish all Investigators had this. It would sure make keeping track of them a lot easier.

Re: Showcase your Investigator

Brett,
That would confirm it. Is the number prefixed by IYA? A photo for the record would be great.
Cheers

Re: Splice or tie (boom vang)

Watto,

I first use a needle to "sew" the two ends together with stiches under the whipping. Probably not as strong as a proper splice, but I've never had one come apart on me (yet).
