Re: New sails, shorter Main?

Yara - I checked and you're right, I think the gooseneck track does need to be lifted - it could accept up to 18cm of raising before it obstructs the opening of the mainsail groove. To raise the track section I'd need to drill out the rivets and then re-rivet back in place ensuring the rivet heads ...

New sails, shorter Main?

Hi everyone The time approaches when I must bite the bullet and order a new set of sails (in my case a new Main and Storm Jib). I've got several quotes for about $1700-$1800, but one thing remains to be sorted before I place the order. I'm considering shortening the Main by upto 30cm in order to lif...

Re: wobbly centreboard

Ian, your suggestion proved to be the answer, I had another two cheeks cut 270mm rounds but this time in 3mm HDPE, those and one of the 1.5mm rounds did the job. Ozzie, unfortunately I didn't see your post in time before I refitted the CB and lowered the boat off the hoist. There was some time press...

wobbly centreboard

Dear investigators, As you may recall I've been going through the process of getting my CB working again after years of neglect by previous owner. Thus far I've unstuck it from its barnacles encrusted home in the casing; beadblasted and painted the CB; and now I'm refitting the CB I've noticed there...

Loose foot?

G'day all In considering how to replace my sails I have received a number a quotes, all indicate the Mainsail they would provide would be the Loose Foot variety. My current Main is a captured(?) foot ie the sail fits into the boom for the length of the boom, there is no gap. I have slab reefing not ...

Sail replacement

G'Day Investigators I'm after a Mainsail and a Jib - mine are showing daylight through the material and the stitching is failing on every edge (I'm having a go at sewing them myself but I think they're too far gone). Does anyone have sails they'd like to move-on? Or, any recommendations for getting ...

Re: Water ingress top of keel

Thanks Greg, Pulling out the ingots? Boy, that sounds like an involved and dangerous task. I sucked out the water today, I got about 600ml, so I'd say the cavity held about 1Lt of saltwater before I punctured the top and removed it. I'll keep an eye on it for now and hope that by reseating skin fitt...

Re: Water ingress top of keel

Checked, and nothing running out, no signs of cracks or osmosis. I've resealed the hull fittings such as cockpit drains, rudder pintels, and hull bungs ( none were loose) but I doubt any of these are the source of seawater ingress because the water ends up inside the CB and Keel casing not in the bi...

Re: Centreboard angle

Atles According to the drawings at John Crawford Marine (It appears the angle is slightly more acute, say about 80 degrees? Regardless, you'reright I 's much more than the 45 degrees previous owner had it set to. See drawing: http://www.johncrawfordmarine.com.au/trailer-sailer/library/doc_download/6...
