Re: two investigators in Trading post

Emrys, While there are certainly bargains to be had, to get your boat set up as you want it there's a certain investment that needs to be made. I have to agree with you. It's worth it. We've figured out that the Investigator is as you put it "worth spending time and money on". We've alread...

Re: New Boat Port

Robert,

Very swish indeed! I am fortunate in being able to fit our boat under the house (with 50mm to spare) but the mast has to come off every time. You have it drive in-drive out style. I'm envious.

Re: Exterior Mods

Ian, Yes, I did consider the strength issue. Plan B was to increase the size of the bottom plate on the rear stanchion if I was not comfortable, but that hasn't been necessary. You do lose some stiffness which is more a matter of comfort/confidence, and that could be taken care of by adding a tensio...

Exterior Mods

One of the problems we found during our recent trip to the Whitsundays was that it was difficult (for old folks like me) to get on and off the boat at the stern to go snorkelling etc., Margarita has a swimming platform, which is great but I find it difficult get my leg over the rail. So we've modifi...

Re: Sailing with Careels, Moreton Bay

Gunter, Re the photo, it's my pleasure. Robert's photo is the first I have of our boat, but it's not taken 10 years. oI'll send you a copy of the original of your boat, which will be of better quality. I think there'll be a few more pics coming from the CCYA people. Lots of photos were taken and the...

Re: Interior mods

Matt, good to have you on board. I've also added some pics to the gallery which might give you some ideas. In our case there's just the two of us (kids all grown up with their own families) and so we've worked on making the boat as amenable as possible for 2 people. Might not work so well for you if...

In the forward cabin, we've removed the cushions as there are only two of us and we sleep in the cabin bunks. This allows us to use the forward cabin for storage. "Cargo" net is made out of bird netting.

Water storage is a 25l plastic drum, secured with a luggage strap. We carry additional water as needed, but this arrangement allows easy access to the main supply. The water and other containers (tucker box etc) are arranged to allow the hatch over the porta pottti to be unrestricted.

More Margarita pics.
Port side aft cabin. <br />Note the slide-in table under. Also had a hatch on the RHS for emergency gear.

The table can be used inside the cabin, with a fold-down leg, and a (separate) removeable cross-bar mounted on the cabin divider. It also fits between the cabin bunks providing a double bunk athwartship.

The table also has fold-down legs which allow it to be used in the aft cockpit. We use it in this fashion most of the time.
