Re: Hawkesbury and tiller pilot

Thanks Ian,
Finally got my pushrod extensions, after 2+ months wait. Must be the far extremities of the wartimes supply chain. The minimalist packaging said "made in Hungary" with a few code numbers etc. It fit onto the ST1000 ok, 3 cheers to the factory in Hungary (where's USA or China?).

Re: Electric yachts - the future?

Before going electric check this out, from an experienced circumnavigator from Norway. Thomas's practical experience, analysis, conclusions about all-electric vs hybrid-electric vs conventional diesel is an eye opener. He says not eveyone would agree with him but it his honest opinion. He does the b...

It was forecast Cat2-3 (120-170k/hr winds) a direct collision course with Townsville a day out (the first direct hit since TC Althea, cat 3 in 1971).Gets the blood pumping, we wer well prepped. windy and meteye indicated south...

Re: Inflatable life jacket use by dates

The trouser pants might be a good backup if the old inflatable PFD pops! 10 years is the manufacurer recommended "lifespan". But In the thread , its pointed out that good storage extends the life of Inflatable/any life jacket. It's a yachting forum, so most of their LJ's would be kept on b...

Re: Sail Trim

Thanks Peter, That's a great tutorial on headsail setup and trim. may have to watch it a few times and take notes/apply. "If in doubt - let it out" is a good saying, often gets the boat going when it feels "sluggish". The bit on sliding the sheets track foward for reaching a new ...

Re: Stoves

That's an interesting gimball system for a small yacht Ozzie, Have seen a few DIY gimball systems online too, like one to hold a trangia on a 12ft welsford scamp. Got another "boat" stove to add. Bought a Trangia 25 recently, it's the big brother of the trangia's. Has more holding capacity...

Re: Summer Reading Suggestions

Hi Ray, "Tis the season to be reading".. especially up north. Picked up a bargain book by Jeff Toghill at an op-shop in nz a year ago. (op shops etc near sailing mecca's often good) It's called "ANZ sailing and boating", 1983. It has some good sections about trailer sailing and c...

Re: Bucket bath and showers

Thanks for the feed back Geoff and Ozzie, Preheating water with sun's rays, would warm water up. I've tried the camp solar showers aboard too, and found them heavy (20kg) and cumbersome on a rocking boat. They are like a large flying jellyfish if hung up and like a slippery seal if trying to empty l...

Re: Bucket bath and showers

Back to simplicity, I did the bucket bath vs 12v shower comparison test (in back yard, 32C, windy and muggy) speedos and travel towel, plugged into Terias 12volts. For the hot water heater used my Trangia 25 1.75L pot of about 1.6L water with meths burner. First was the 12v shower https://www.tentwo...

Re: Bucket bath and showers

Thanks for the vid, "simon's soup can stove". It's always interesting watch guys invent or adapt things on u-tube (watching a few van and 4wd shower vids too) Simpilcity is the key, I'm going to try my old "flexitub" as a shower water recycling catcher. It's strong enough, big en...
