Re: Centreboard Removal

Thanks Peter, I worried about the side-to-side slop. I started with three 1mm shims each side plus the nylon discs - this was too tight so I dropped off one 1mm shim on either side, and then it felt a little loose. The other thing that's worrying me is the bearing surface for the bolt which appears ...

Re: Centreboard Removal

Centreboard removal and replacement was a drama. I had to do a rushed job to get the boat out of the boat yard. My first attempt leaked badly. My second attempt wept very slowly. I am just about to grind off all the glass and goo in the bilge and start again. Here's some pictures in case anyone is i...

Re: Where can I buy toerail

Toe rail update. Step 1. collect recycled HDPE from https://www.replas.com.au/ IMG_0234-lr.jpeg Step 2. rip down 40 x 40 profile to 30 x 40 on dodgy home-made saw-bench. Make a terrible microplastic eco-disaster (despite using vacuum). Go to Bunnings and buy cheap(ish) 20l vacuum. IMG_0278-lr.jpeg S...

Re: Topping lift

Hi Christie, When you are moored with the sail down, you can hook the end of the boom to the bottom of the backstay. A topping lift comes in handy when you are raising the sail. I just use a fixed line to the top of the mast where the backstay is attached, but others use the block that you are proba...

Re: Centreboard Removal

Thanks Ozzie, that was an interesting thread.

PS my recycled HDPE toe rails are now on. I’ll post details in the relevant thread. Now I just have to get the centreboard back in…

Re: Centreboard Removal

How is the pivot bolt sealed on your boat? I saw Andrew’s picture which shows minimal silicone sealant under the bolt head and nut.

I’ve just removed the centreboard and mine had a high mound of polyurethane adhesive covered by glass mat.

Any pictures or suggestions welcome.

Re: Check your thu-hulls

Thanks Ozzie, I read an article about an aluminium yacht that put the expanding foam between the hull and the cabin sole, and in various other places. When they foundered on a reef it punctured the hull but the boat didn't take on any water because of the foam lining the hull. They floated off on th...

Re: Check your thu-hulls

Been thinking about this stuff for under the bunks and vee berth, but I think I'd want to get some down near the stern as well.

Re: Storm Jib

You’re absolutely right Peter. My main interest in that very small jib in the picture (I don’t have one like that) is that with the second reef in the main and my #2 jib in about 18+ knots with both sails as flat as possible, I found a lot of lee helm which is scary in a blow. But you are right that...
