It's l...

Re: Boom tent Investigator 563

Our boat came with a boom awning, It's made of blue canvas and has 3 PVC tubes inside pockets that run across the awning. 6 guys ropes hang from the ends of the tubes and tie to the top life line wires and aft rail. It looks like it was custom made to fit the length of the boom. There are also 2 sma...

Re: Wanted recommendations on new outboard

Hi all, How would a 4 HP (2 stroke) outboard or similar go on an I563? In Qld boats of 4HP or less don't need to pay registration fees. The Investigator webpage specs sheet says 3 HP is enough to reach hull speed (in a dead flat calm?) Currently i have an old 9.8 HP Johnson long shaft, it's heavy to...

Re: Centreboard maintenance

Here are some photos of Terias centerboard repairs. I also marked the lowering rope in 2 spots, one about 3/4 raised and another 1/2 raised. Took her out sailing and it worked well. The boats performance was heaps better than without the board on the first sail. I liked the way the board balanced th...

Re: Trailer side support -wobble rollers vs bunks

This is a great thread, thanks for the posts and excellent trailer pics, know what a stock standard Investigator trailer looks like now. :D My trailer must be from the early days-- I'm thinking of doing some modifications to it, the side bunks are one item..I don't have keel guide woods either. Have...

Re: Centreboard maintenance

Here's an update on Terias centerboard maintenance-restoration progress Stage 1) Decided to do the pivot pin assembly first as the hole in the board had some pitting etc and had expanded beyond the original 16 mm internal diameter. Bought a new 60x10mm 316 ss bolt with washers and nut. The plastic b...

Re: Trailer Damage

I've got my trailer out and am starting to work on it. The rear roller cluster came off ok with a cutting wheels on angle grinders, have welded the bases for the new roller assembly on. Straightened out a bent roller frame too. I'm going beyond trailer damage and into trailer modification now,, thin...

Re: Centreboard maintenance

A small sacrificial anode sounds like an interesting idea on conventional steel plate boards. Has anyone tried one yet?

Re: Centreboard maintenance

Hi Emrys, That sounds good, prevention's better than cure. I always hose everything down after a sail too, to reduce corrosion of any metal, even stainless and especially any dissimilar metals next to each other. Reckon regular use of the board would also detect any problems early on, then it could ...

Re: Centerboard rusted and stuck

The board comes out! Kept swinging the boards aft end up and down, plus used the 2kg steel mallet on the forward end of plate, this gradually worked the rusted pivoting end of the plate downwards. The yellow side packers came out with it. PB210066 extracting plate.JPG The best rust remover tool was ...
