Re: Capsise
All the more confirms the advantages of sailing a well ballasted Investigator which doesn't depend on the CB for stability.

Re: Sailing Whitsundays
I'd endorse the recommendation for a GPS. I've got one of these. This one looks like a good deal and they are in Melbourne so maybe you can save on postage. I've got one and it's all you need. No maps but you don't need them on the GPS. Plot your course using the program that comes with the GPS (Map...

Re: Sailing Whitsundays
Normanby We used 100 Magic Miles which is pretty much a must have. As for navigation, I'd say it's fairly simple. Plenty of significant landmarks around, and I assume you'd have the charts. But that said I use a GPS anyway, because I work with GPS for a living and don't go anywhere without one. It's...

Re: Sailing Whitsundays
Normanby, You might find our post on the Whitsundays useful http://www.investigator563.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=46 We spent 2 weeks there last June/July. Sailing to Hamilton is no problem, although you need to watch the weather because the passage can be lumpy in strong S/E winds, which are...

Re: Sail sheets blocks, sidestays, halyard and deck questions
Jay, The photos I posted are fairly old and show the boat rigged in the manner of the previous owner. I found that a single line jib sheet was a bit tough on the crew (wife) and now we use 2 small blocks at the clew and tie off at the jib track to give a 2: 1 ratio. Negative to this is the blocks ca...

Re: Sail sheets blocks, sidestays, halyard and deck questions
Jay, he Genoa does foul the pushpit a bit, but not so much as to be a problem. The sheet goes outside the sidestay and the clew can foul the lifelines if hauled in tight, but again not a major problem. The genoa is set up the same as the jib i.e. uses the same wire halyard. I have spinnaker block ab...

Re: Sail sheets blocks, sidestays, halyard and deck questions
Jay, We sail with the genoa almost all the time. Haven't used the jib for ages as the boat seems a bit underpowered with the jib and most of the drive comes from the headsail. Only rig for the jib if we are anticipating winds over 15kts. Mind you others will probably tell you different and swear by ...

Re: Pop-top problem
Graham, Yes the bottom ends pop off the fasteners and are held up under the front of the pop top with a clip. If you look closely on the photos you'll see a clip just behind the pop top holding down bolt.. The brackets on the cabin top that the holding down bolts clip into can be a hazard for the un...
