Sonata 6

Recently spotted a Sonata6 for sale on the street in Townsville, it's my first time to see one up close. stopped to check her out and it seemed to be similar in hull size to an Investigator 563. The main difference being very shallow draft board up and a pivoting keel centercase inside. Did some Inv...

Re: Portable electric breathing apparatus

Interesting Ozzie, definitely should have a scuba diving ticket before using any kind of compressed air breathing device underwater. Can get "air embolisms" if don't exhale as ascending (like for panic-mode divers who usually hold their breath, go up, lung air expands, breaks through into ...

Re: PLB AND MOB

Jessica watson was also on utube during her voyage, it was sometimes very difficult out there, and took allot of determination and grit to complete the whole circumnavigation, (especially after that near rundown at the beginning). It's amazing that virtually no lifejackets have utility pockets for a...

Re: Castaway story. More that meets the eye?

https://www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Sailing/General/Sailor-rescued-after-3-months-at-sea Bit more discussion on other forums.. Voyage planning Depending on season, probably better to coast it through central America down to Ecuador, (so safer if learning/trouble etc) once at the latutude of Ecuador...

Re: Castaway story. More that meets the eye?

From what ive read/utubed, Tim admits he "bit off more than he could chew" , his only previous sailing experience was coastal NSW (don't know if owner skipper or crewing). Here's my 2 cents worth. His route crossed the equator, so likely got stuck in the doldrums, a vast area of no wind. W...

Re: Today a Valentine

That's a very nice yacht, TLC and time required to bring her back like that. Definitely something wholesome about wooden boats, just need to keep up the maintenance work and cover them. Spotted a nice project wooden yacht on fb market place on a property up north here for the wooden boat enthusiast/...

Re: Hawkesbury and tiller pilot

I've epoxied another wood block underneath the coaming, and its also glued it to the previous wood blocks aft end, hope that hold it ok. Reckon most of the side-force will be in the coamings fiberglass shell (the tiller pilot can push/pull upto 57 kgs) So drilling the bushing hole has to be a very p...

Re: Hawkesbury and tiller pilot

Glad it helped Geoff, and also thanks Peter , i suspected that was the case, so now will go the extra bit and move my coaming bush back aft about 5cm (glue extra wood block inside coaming for brass bush). The ST1000 is good for upto a 3000kg displacement sailboat, so we are only at about 1/3 that we...
