Re: #90 Tikirri is back!
I towed my empty trailer back to the Tablelands last Sunday, leaving "Secret Chord" at Maryborough. I gave it an inspection the following day, and the rear supporting crossmember was completely fractured in the centre beside the double rollers, and had cracked the runners at either side wh...

Re: Greetings From Topaz Bill
I feel the same David, good preparation makes for a relaxing trip. I was recently in open water near Hamilton Island, the wind recording 25 gusting to 35 knots on the beam, and I was perfectly comfortable and confident. I have travelled on a pearling lugger with 2.5 metre draught, and felt nowhere n...

Re: Greetings From Topaz Bill
True David, I have relatives at Burnie so understand Tassie weather well. I recently spoke to a yachtie that had sailed from Brisbane to Cairns, and had spent one night at sea during this voyage, there being anchorage at Island, headland, river, marina etc. all the way. My longest leg will be from I...

Re: Greetings From Topaz Bill
After a day of frustration, I have managed to upload a couple of videos to YouTube. Unfortunately, only a portion of each uploaded. They aren't the type of video that Investigator enthusiasts will want to watch, but it's only practice.

Re: Greetings From Topaz Bill
I'm happy to do YouTube videos if I can master the technology. I learnt quickly not to try and oversail, and try to err on the side of caution, and when in open water have my "escape"plan in mind should things deteriorate. The cockpit drains are inadequate, as are cleats and bollard, more ...

Greetings From Topaz Bill
Hello fellow enthusiasts. I'd like to introduce myself, Bill from Topaz on Atherton Tablelands near Cairns. I thank the administrators for managing such a great forum, the term "blog" seems to do it a disservice. I purchased "Nipper", number 65 according to sail , and have rename...

Re: sailing my investigator
Sorry Geoff, no photos yet, but my modification was really simple. I installed a couple of eyebolts one through the poptop and one through the cabin top at right angles to each other. They are joined by a bolt, and work perfectly. The top can be raised instantly to about 45 degrees, so with the hatc...

Re: sailing my investigator
I'm happy to send photos Geoff, "Secret Chord" is parked up for a week or two till I can resume my Whitsundays adventures. Although technologically challenged, I'll do my best to attach photos. Emrys' pop top does look a work of art, I just wanted something instant. I'm a novice sailor, an...

That's really funny. We need more humour in this world.

Re: sailing my investigator
Have you fitted hinges to the "pop top ". I hinged mine and found it better than trying to raise it using the struts.
