Re: Hawkesbury and tiller pilot

That's a great solution Ian, it must make a huge improvement overall when going out on water. I'm making up a "tempoary" ram extension from bits and pieces in workshop, cost negligible. Hope it holds up. (The story - phoned all 3 marine chandlers here and not one keeps the official parts i...

Re: Hawkesbury and tiller pilot

The tiller pilot looks good Ian, what kind of push rod extension did you fit? Bought a Raymarine ST1000+ tiller pilot and going through the instruction manual, online forums and utube etc, beginning set-up. Looks like it's a coaming mount for me Did the measurements required in the manual and my I56...

Re: Fish finders 2020

Hi all, I just purchased a Garmin echomap 45CV on special at Bias for$399. Good value. Can't wait to see how I might mount that transducer, but off to Qld next week for 5 weeks, so a bit of a wait to see it I reckon Nice one Peter, They look like a good 2-in-one chart plotter/fishfinder. (That was ...

Re: A chat about VHF Radios

That's the go Peter, gets the antenna higher, out of the way and easily trailerable. My one is same concept as you, just on the port side railtop corner above the upright. Here is a photo from my last trip. VHF antenna base Teria 20230609_200527.jpg Tested it's range with coastguard base from about ...

Re: A chat about VHF Radios

That's the best radio ticket Geoff, with potential to go way out blue water cruising later, and nice to know course can be completely online if needed. The "Navigation Centre" was where i did my course, (It downsized ?from Pandemic but still good) . Also a smiley photo was allowed for the ...

Re: Kimberley cruise.

Amazing voyage Exmea, and thanks for posting some info and great pics on it. How did you find the navigation and tides there? My Dad once worked with the pearl farm at Kuri Bay, (closer to Broome end of Kimberlys) and skippered a pearling lugger called John Louis for awhile (Still afloat at Aust Mar...

Re: A chat about VHF Radios

Update on my VHF Found out that even though i did the radio course at CoastGuard, about 10 years ago (VHF/HF everything, incl manual), but no certification ever came through. Visited the CG base this year and there was no record of my course or even ever being a CG member, it must've been in the pap...

Re: Bunks or rollers

David advises me that he used to lower the rear of the bunksby about 25 mm but didnt think it was needed if he used his extendable tow bar or on steeper ramps. Screenshot_20230407_151950_Gallery.jpg Hi Peter and all, i can confirm this is good. My extended draw bar (with or without tilt ) allows th...

Re: Steering (Magnetic) Compass

That's a great wrap for installing the red light accessory to that compass. Will have to invest, even though I probably won't need it. You just never know when you will be in that position to have the need for it. Thanks Andrew. Cheers Finally got it all done Peter and it proved itself in the post-...
