Re: Replacing wooden gunwales
Hi again: The only way I could remove each gunwale was with a broad sharp chisel and a rubber mallet. When the original gunwales were attached, they used glue as well as bolts to secure them. The bolts and nuts had long since seized, so even once I prised off their wooden cover plugs, it was impossi...

Replacing wooden gunwales
Hi all: In an earlier post I indicated I was finally getting around to replacing the wooden gunwales on QUMBU. I had toyed briefly with using a metal edge strip (as others had done), but I wanted to retain the maritime 'look' of the original design, and so have chosen to go with wood again. I've jus...

Re: Outboard motors
Brian: Like others here, I too run a 6hp long shaft engine and find it more than ample for getting my boat in and out of the marina safely and swiftly enough, prior to setting or dropping sails. I had a motor twice the size on my previous boat, but its extra weight was a pain in the back (literally)...

Re: testing , testing. anyone there?
Hi again all: Apart from my gunwales, I'm also installing a new VHF transceiver. I've just completed my MROVCP, and learnt during that course that my old 27MHz radio was next to useless, mainly because few if any responsible (rescue) agencies monitor those frequencies anymore. So it provides a very ...

Re: testing , testing. anyone there?
Hi folks: I'm still here too, though I must say the bloody cold winter here in Victoria has taken the edge off any maritime thoughts. It's all I can do to work in the man cave (shed) on various boat related projects. Anyway, this weekend I'm planning on replacing the wooden gunwales on Qumbu, so I'l...

Re: Deck track needed for genoa?
Thanks Ian:
The foot on my new genoa is the regulation 3.15 metres.
I'll try it on the Bay and see how it goes on the cockpit tracks, and consider adding deck tracks if needed, once I work out how to return the sheets to my winches and cleats.
Cheers,

Deck track needed for genoa?
Hi all: I've recently had a genoa made for my boat, cut to the size recommended in the original sail plans -- and something I've never had before on my boat. I've not yet had a chance to hoist it and go for a sail, but plan to ASAP. In the meantime, I'm keen to hear from other Investigator owners as...
