Battery location and other questions
Hi folks: I'm doing some restoration work on the Investigator I've just bought, and have a few questions for the forum. First, where is the best place to house a marine battery in an Investigator? My boat has it fitted in the starboard cockpit locker, but I thought this might place too much weight o...

Re: Ballast
Hi Bill: I've just hauled my new (S/H) Investigator down from Bendigo to Geelong, and after a bit of a fix-up I'll be sailing it from St Helens with the Geelong Trailable Yacht Club. I understand the club has at least one other Investigator on its books, so call in some time if you want to check out...

Re: Pulpit dimension
Hi Ian: Many thanks for your advice. I did not know there were varying dimensions, so I will wait until my boat arrives to measure it properly. I agree re the tabernacle too, and will replace the screws with SS bolts through to an underplate in the cabin if needs be. I do plan to buy a TallMate to i...

Pulpit dimension
Hi folks: I will soon take possession of my 'new' Investigator, and am ordering in advance a MastMate system. One of the components - the RollerMate - attaches across the pulpit, just ahead of the two front vertical staunchions. Would someone out there be able to post the measurement across the pulp...

Re: Swinging, swinging keel
Many thanks for posting the drawing of the centreplate. When I take possession of my new (SH) Investigator in November, I may have to remove my plate and clean it. However, there's a chance I may have to replace it altogether. If so, I have a friend who can work such miracles in metal. I understand ...

Re: Greetings from new Investigator owner
Hi again: I just remembered that the other repair job I need to do fairly soon on QUMBU is to replace the wooden gunwale strips along the full outer edge, as the current strips have cracked in the weather through exposure. Ditto the cabin handrails above, which appear to be about a 1 1/2 inch diamet...

Re: Greetings from new Investigator owner
Hi Ian: Many thanks for your welcome. The boat I have bought is called Qumbu -- named apparently by its first owner, a South African, after a small village in SA. For the past 17 years, it has been owned by an old friend at the Bendigo Yacht Club. The sail number is OY255. The boat has mainly been u...

Greetings from new Investigator owner
Hi everyone! I have just become the proud and excited owner of a new (well, S/H) Investigator, which I will be towing down to Geelong (where I live) in mid November. I plan to start sailing on Corio Bay, after spending many years inland sailing at Lake Eppalock. I'll attach some pics of the boat onc...
