Re: Caution Jib Hank

Ozzie: If you are going with spectra, then I think 6mm would be plenty. I used 10mm braided polyester, largely because it fitted my blocks and existing cleats, and was thick enough to grip with big hands in a hurry. Unlike spectra, this line does stretch a little under extreme pressure, but it's har...

Re: Caution Jib Hank

Thanks for sharing your rather scary experiences with us Ozzie. You mentioned having a wire halyard in hand with the impending storm nearby. My boat came with wire halyards too, but a friend encouraged me to abandon these and run polyester instead. It works a treat and there's no annoying rattle of ...

Re: 563 on eBay

Hi again all:

There's currently an Investigator just listed on eBay in the Brisbane area.

Apparently needs some work, judging by the photos.

But the start price is $350!

Someone who is a bit handy with the tools might just score a great 'project boat'.

Cheers,

Re: The 30 year refurb continues

Many thanks for your kind words Ozzie. Like most boat owners (I suspect) I get just as much pleasure from tinkering with my boat, as I do actually sailing it. Then at least when I sail her, I can confidently claim that I know every square inch, for better or worse. If something goes astray, I have o...

Re: Trailer Lights

Hi all: I know this is an old thread, but recently I've been reading about the zealousness with which our state authorities are now policing the regulations re towing and trailers, with the capacity of D shackles and appropriate lighting being the two apparent hot spots. When I bought QUMBU about 3 ...

Re: Marauder 24

Thanks for sharing Ozzie.

I was fascinated to note the similarities, and almost wondered where the round mid-cabin portal was!

Am I right in presuming the motor's prop stays submerged (i.e. it can't be raised or lowered)?

Good price for a lot of (good) boat!

Re: Investigator insignia

Thanks Ian for that clarification.

Now that you point it out, it's pretty obvious.

I blame the Boag's beer I was drinking at the time, and those dodgy Tassie Oysters.

Re: Investigator insignia

I know this is an old thread, but a recent trip to Northern Tassie got me thinking again. We visited the wonderful Low Head Custom's House Maritime Museum and there was an array of original portholes mounted on the wall, salvaged from various wrecks that had got a bit too friendly with the unfriendl...

Re: Replacing wooden gunwales

Hi again all: I'll finish this thread with the final task: cutting the bolt cover plugs and fixing them in place. As I mentioned previously, each bolt hole is 8mm in diameter; so, you need to cut out 8mm diameter plugs from the same type of wood to plug each hole. My friend Jim used his pedestal dri...
