Re: Seeking history of the investigator 563
Yep Bob Barnard was who I was thinking of. I would say that is pretty correct as I briefly mentioned. The different factory locations in NSW are correct. Jim Voysey started Sonata yachts and it had a number of incarnations also - with Jim in and out a couple of times. In those days many boats were f...

Re: Seeking history of the investigator 563
Not really sure about this licence thing but do know that Bob........ (I'll think of his name in a minute) built the boats at Manly Vale, Brookvale and Lisarow in NSW and (maybe) at Cardiff before the moulds were sold. In those days boatbuilders moved around according to factory rents. In the proces...

Re: Videos worth watching
If you wanna see extreme conditions for testing boats albeit power boats anything by "Frankwildcat" on Youtube. The website for Sampson Boat Company shows old fashioned boat building and is a series on the ongoing rebuild of a old yacht. Off Center Harbor is great for wooden boat stuff and...

The Careel set up Ozzie shows was specifically designed by a Careel owner and was later supplied by the builders. At the time (nearly 50 yrs ago now) the only "furler" arrangement available was - drum at the deck and swivel at the top with wire luff jib between. This system was really desi...

Re: Modified pushpit rail
My reasoning for the solution was that my corner stanchions were further out board than yours, virtually at the aft corner of the deck, so i had the rail cut in the centre and bent down to a new foot on the deck. Gives the pushpit 3 anchor points to deck for strength

Re: Modified pushpit rail
Have done mine similar but just used a Spectra line with snap hook across between the corner rails. Have never closed it. Noticed your outboard bracket. I have the same bracket about 20 years old and last time out the grey plastic "board" fractured across the 2 upper bolt holes. I had read...

Re: Haulout Spritzig II
I've got black on mine - yes it hides the discoloration. I'm in fresh water but when the Lakes got salty during the drought the growth was quick. With plenty of fresh only get slime. Ultra2 is the replacement to Longlife when International failed to successfully renew their licence on the product. L...
