I have the opposite experience. Seals "fixed" to the axles just spun out, and failed badly.
Anyway Peter, actually you are our member no20, dating back to 2009! Interestingly the software accepted your email address with no problems.

Re: Newbie
Welcome, Peter.
WRT bearing seals, hope you are getting the spring loaded oil type seals, rather than what are called "marine" type but are hopeless. Even the normal seals are better.

Re: How much weight is too much
I dont think it is so much how much weight you add, but rather where you put it. Stow heavy gear down low. The problem comes that the design is meant to be unsinkable, with the sealed areas under the bunks. I compromised by making near waterproof hatches for the area under the front bunks, but actua...

Bump. There is hope in sight. New member Graeme (Ikara) might be able to upgrade our software to keep out the scammers.

Re: Hull Identification Numbers
Thanks Ray I must say I'm surprised that given so few were built that there wasn't a more prominent marking to uniquely identify each boat and when it was built but I guess times have changed a lot since then :/ Were there any other identifying features that changed over the years I know one was th...

Re: my dream to come
Wow, Atles, that is a big boat. What are the stats? Have you got the mast and sails? I nearly bought a 29 footer this week at a bargain price, but chickened out when I thought of the time and work involved compared to my Investigator 563, where everything is already sorted. Plus Yara does not compla...

Re: Traveler setup
Yes, there is less friction on an angled track, and less torque on the track mountings. However, in this case, you can see that it necessitated a cut-out on the top of the rudder for clearance. Seems fine, so might as well leave it.

Re: Looking again in Victoria
I know how you feel Mel. I have been eyeing off keelboats for years, but every time I inspect one in my price range, I come back to how much better the Investigator 563 is for me. Having spent years setting it up, it has all the mod cons I need, plus some extras like a full boom tent that I have nev...

Re: The List
If there is nothing on the sails, it may be on the back of the "Good Design Award" plaque which was fixed on the port side of the companionway on many boats. Only other clue is the front hatch hinges. If the top of the hatch is curved, with only one hinge, it is likely to be before number ...
