Re: Showcase your Investigator
Brett, A welcome from me as well. I haven't come across Lady Bird before so your boat is new to me. I do have a listing for #73 but it belongs to a boat called Xonophen (LY205) in Victoria, last advertised in 2008. I'm not sure where I came up with that boat number so it may be wrong. Did you see yo...

Re: Boat Names
Name changes seem to occur frequently with our boats. I have a record of both Luna Blue and Mistress at Lake Macquarie so now we can assume that it is the same boat. Mistress was for sale at Balcoyln Lake, Macquarie city in July 2020 before popping up for sale again at Tin Can Bay last October. It h...

Re: Splice or tie (boom vang)
I find that whipping works well. I finish the whipping with a coating of "whip-end dip".
Here's my boom vang.

Cockpit Locker Furniture
I had to replace a broken hinge on my cockpit locker recently and used the last of my spare McCallum brand hinges. (Most 50mm butt hinges that you can buy don't have the correct hole pattern to match the holes in the locker lid). The McCallum branded hinge was no longer available but the supplier I'...

Re: Number 35 for sale in Tassie
Kieran, Taste the water in the bilge. If it is fresh(ish), the culprit is likely to be rainwater leaking into the sealed bunk compartments and then dribbling out into the bilge. The water sloshes around when you go sailing exasperating the leak. This was a problem that I had. I would be very surpris...

Number 35 for sale in Tassie
C-Games is being advertised on Gumtree. The asking price of $4390 seems very reasonable.

Re: Electric yachts - the future?
Ozzie, John Cadogan gives a good run down of where we are at with electric vehicles in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gqbTHk4egw The technology is fine but the price is still the prohibitive factor for most of us. I can't see how solar panels on a car would be of much help. There just i...

Re: Driveways and boat storage
A carport type would be nearly as good as a full shed. Keeping the rain and sun off the boat is the aim. If the boat is under cover, you can also leave the hatchs open so that you don't get the high humidity and condensation in the cabin. I lived in Townsville for ten years and know all about the mo...

Re: Driveways and boat storage
My Investigator spent many years parked in the backyard. I used various covers to protect it but they all either fell to pieces eventually or managed to hold pockets of water. In the end, I gave up with covers and left it to the elements. The boat stood up pretty well notwithstanding the rain water ...

Re: Mast Footing Fitting
My mast step cracked some time back (maybe 10 years ago) and I also purchased one from Keeley marine. Seems to be a common problem. I glued the broken bits back together with the aim of one day using it as a mould to try and make another. I finally got around to it (love retirement), and after a cou...
