Re: Centreboard Removal

Thay sounds right Ian, my one still had ok fibreglass walls to bear on. (and no flogged out hole either) Also the fact i took everything to a precision engineer - (galv centerboard and my new pivot bolt. Plus the old bush/washers.) they selected the plastic and figured out fine tolerances/dimensions...

Re: Centreboard Removal

Gday Ian, that sacrificial zinc anode looks a good idea for moored boats. :-) If youve not already seen it, here is a link to my centerboard restoration blog page https://teria563.blogspot.com/2014/01/centerboard-restoration-and-refit.html It shows how the pivot bushes were done for Teria. So far it...

Re: Where can I buy toerail

Looks good Ian, thanks for pioneering method and detailing how to do it step by step. It will be a very resilient toe rail. At the other end of the polyethylene spectrum, experimented replacing my toe rail with 19mm low pressure garden polypipe (as a tempoary measure, until something better, but sus...

Re: USEFUL STUFFS

Interesting Rope info. Nylon's stretch properties good for docklines. Polyester good for halyards etc. Polyprop floats.

Countdown about to begin for Aldi Townsville (23rd Nov opening).. :D

Re: Today at Valentine

Nice one Andrew. I always think owning a timber boat is more of a lifestyle than a hobby. They are certainly not a thing you can ignore for a few years and just start up on a whim again. There is a second chap restoring an ex small passenger ferry to ultimately use as liveaboard I’ve spoken to on t...

Re: Check your thu-hulls

Came across this video from LadyK sailing, anout how easy it is to sink via though hull failure :? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkAsfunh7HM It's amazing how much water can come in through a paddle-wheel hole. (Their auto-electric bilge pump didn't work, so it's a good measure of the unattended &q...

Re: Sonata 6

Good to see the Sonata's are good on big shallow inland waterways, those racing capsizers may have had the keel up under full canvas perhaps? Keel down they'd be more stable. The shoal draft would suit going ashore in sheltered waters so no need for a tender/kayak aboard like the I563. Cooking aboar...

Sonata 6

Recently spotted a Sonata6 for sale on the street in Townsville, it's my first time to see one up close. stopped to check her out and it seemed to be similar in hull size to an Investigator 563. The main difference being very shallow draft board up and a pivoting keel centercase inside. Did some Inv...
