Tohatsu Sail Pro

What are people’s experiences with the Tohatsu Sail Pro? Looks like one of the only outboards on the market designed for the requirements of trailer sailers. What top speeds are people getting out of them on their I563? I imagine they have a fair bit of punch on an 18ft boat given the high trust pro...

Stands for drying out

Has anyone tried setting up some kind of prop or stand for drying the boat out at low tide?
I’m thinking some kind of prop that attaches to the topsides to stop the boat flopping on to its side

Re: Electric yachts - the future?

I have 2x 100ah 12v lifepo4 batteries that I run in series. Weigh about 11kg each. They were about $1000-1100 each at the time of purchase. You can buy cheaper these days. 4x 100ah 12v would be my preferred capacity for improved range. Motor cost about $700 or $800. I use the batteries for a variety...

Re: Electric yachts - the future?

Current draw at lower speeds is significantly less. I can motor around at 2kts using only 5amps at 26v. A mate and I have had a great day motoring around the lake at 2kts being steered by the auto helm. The silence is wonderful. A decent solar panel would keep you going forever. All good in a calm l...

Re: Electric yachts - the future?

I have a lightweight 18ft Ts, not an Investigator. I usually have a 3.5hp petrol which pushes me along at 5.5-6kts in flat water. I have also dabbled in converting to electric. I have a 120lbs thrust, 1500w electric outboard running off lithium batteries. With this setup I get about 4.5kts drawing 5...

Re: Outboard information

I have a mate who would buy a can of spray paint when he bought a new outboard. He’d cover his new outboard in graffiti.
Looked ugly. Still worked like a new outboard, but it’s value to thieves was minimal

Re: Stoves

A big shout out to Mr Topaz Bill.
He has given me a great little metho stove. I’m very appreciative. A very generous gesture to give it away to someone he’s never met.
Thanks Mate. Credit to you and this great little forum.
