Re: Removing all the lead from the Keel
It's been awhile since I've been on the forum and happened across this topic started by Peter T. As the person who sold him Spindrift, I'm not happy with the claims Peter has made about the sale. First up I never advertised the boat for sale and was restoring it for my own use. Initially I did find ...

Re: Cavities inside keel and around bilge areas.
Thanks Ozzie, the idea of filling the space with some stabilized concrete sounds like a plan. My main concern is where the water came from but thinking about it, I hope it's just bilge water that's seeped in through the dodgy layer of fibreglass covering the keel area. I've manged to get all the wat...

Re: A chat about VHF Radios
Yes, it's not too bad here. The cold is no worse than Melbourne and you don't get this view there! (This image was taken from our deck last week when it was snowing all over Tassie). The Channel would be a world class cruising destination if it was warmer. We're quite happy it's still off the radar ...

Re: A chat about VHF Radios
Hi, I have just bought a fixed Icom VHF radio with DSC and installed it in Spindrift. Some may think it's a bit of over-kill but we'll be sailing the waters of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and beyond. The waters bloody cold down here and in a real emergency, at least I can hit the distress button, no...

Re: Cavities inside keel and around bilge areas.
Thanks for the input. I saw on your FB post Greg you installed bilge pumps over where these cavities are. Makes sense to have a 'well' underneath the pumps where water can find a low point. I've gone into the bilge area behind the step (below the cockpit), cut away some dodgy fibreglass covering the...

Re: Cavities inside keel and around bilge areas.
Hi All, I've been trying to follow this post but need a bit of help. Using Greg's photo, you can see the deepest part of the bilge is a small cavity about 10x5cm that is marked by the red arrow. I have one on each side of the centreplate case that seem to be permanently wet. Does anybody know the pu...

Re: Hole in bottom of rudder
Fantastic. Thanks for that. We are in the middle of doing some work on the outboard, replacing impellers, thermostats and the like and will turn our attention to the boat once that's done. I've done a few cosmetic things like replaced the wooden hand rails and sanded back and re-varnished the tiller...

Re: Hole in bottom of rudder
Thanks Ozzie, that answers that question. I'll follow your suggestions and see how we go sealing it up.
Thanks,
JR

Hole in bottom of rudder
Hello All, we've just bought ourselves an Investigator and I'm guessing, this won't be the last post as I get it back into shape. It's called Spindrift so maybe it's known to some of you? (We live in Tasmania I'm guessing the boat has spent most of it's life here). We haven't sailed it yet but I did...
