A chat about VHF Radios

Hi everyone. Being a bit of a fair weather sailor it has been a bit cold for me to get out on the water lately.... but the cold and rainy weather has been a good time to "tinker" with the setup on my Investigator. This week I have been tinkering with safety and I would like to hear what ev...

Re: Insurance and an introduction

I have had a few quotes but all marine policies I have seen specifically exclude third-party liability while the boat is being moved on the trailer. This is about the only risk I am really concerned about (apart from running into a shiny cruiser or super yacht) and it seems to be uninsurable. My co...

Re: Seeking history of the investigator 563

Yes it really would be great to hear from anyone who was actually involved in the production at the time.
Does anyone know what became of Kevin Shepherd. Given the first boats are all in their 40's - I imagine Kevin would have to be in his 80's by now ?

Re: Seeking history of the investigator 563

Wow - what a fantastic yarn this thread has turned out to be. Thank you for all these great anecdotes. I have a "romantic fascination" with the concept that I was about 13 when my I563 #138 was built (... or born). At that time I was living in Mona Vale and going to school in Manly (and sa...

Re: Seeking history of the investigator 563

I too am interested in the history of where the boats were built - I went to school in Manly at the time they were made. I know this post is over 8 years old so I hope no-one minds my reviving it to ask. I would assume the first "however many" were built in Manly Vale. Does anyone know if ...

Re: Asbestos in your boat.

The picture tells a thousand words (or at least a hundred-odd) :) Thanks for the drawing you included David it pretty much explains everything. After a bit more googling I understand where to look for the filleting. It's kind of analogous to skirting boards in the lounge room or silicone around the ...

Re: Asbestos in your boat.

Yes Ozzie. It's just one of those words.... like the "C" word (when it comes to health). No-one likes talking about it and as noway said its surprising how ignorant people are about it. Possibly because it's such an odious, awful substance to deal with its easier to just not think about it...

Re: New Member and Investigator owner

Thank you for your kind welcome. Yes, the twins (13yrs) love our Investigator, especially my little boy who knows everything about setting her up. We never seem to take any photos when we are actually out sailing.... Who wants to get a mobile phone out when you're able to finally get away from it fo...

Re: Asbestos in your boat.

Hi Ozzie, To use the vernacular of the day - OMG. I too am terrified of this stuff (I can't even bring myself to type the word)... I know this was an old post but I'm just wondering if you ever figured out if our investigators are in fact "infected". Should I be going mental with a caulkin...
