Re: Kimberley cruise.

G'day Andrew. Sorry for the delay in replying. Mate, get it off your bucket list and just do it. The place is amazing and a great place to sail. Navigation and tides are intrinsically linked. To navigate safely you need good knowledge and up to date info on tides, both vertical and tidal streams as ...

Kimberley cruise.

G'day all. I have just returned from another epic Kimberley cruise in Bella Rose, my amazing little investigator. An 8000 km return road trip is well worth the effort and expense to cruise this amazing place. And Bella Rose took it all in her stride. This trip I was solo and at sea for 42 days. Had ...

Re: Bunks or rollers

Thanks for your reply Andrew. But by the time I saw it , I have built my bunks towed to the Kimberley and am back again . The bunks I made were much shorter, only about 400 long, pivoting in the centre and topped with marine carpet. As mentioned, I have just towed Bella Rose 8000 ks to the Kimberley...

Re: Bunks or rollers

Thanks for your thoughts on this issue, Ozzie.
I notice in the photos that your bunks are short while Peter's are full length between supports. Is either better than the other in your opinion.

Re: Bunks or rollers

Thanks Peter. I'm not happy with the rollers so I reckon I'll have a crack at knocking up a set of bunks. I'm heading off to the Kimberley again in a few weeks time. It's a long 8000 K return trip so it's pretty tough on boat and trailer. As mentioned, on previous trip the rollers really wore into t...

Re: Bunks or rollers

Thanks for the reply, Peter. Sounds like an interesting idea with the laminated ply. Have you had any problems with abrasion from the rubber surface on the existing bunks? And does the boat run off the trailer OK . I had bunks on a trailer I used for an 19 ft. Ply fishing boat and during one particu...

Bunks or rollers

G'day all.
Rollers wore into my hull on a long road journey. (8000 Kms)
Would bunks be less damaging? I'm about to do the same trip again and don't want more holes in my hull.
Any thoughts apreciated

Re: A chat about VHF Radios

Bella Rose has a VHF installed. The aerial is mounted on the aft combing port side. This seems quite satisfactory and doesn't interfere with anything. An additional hand held makes great sense, something I hadn't previously considered. Either installed or hand held is a great safety precaution as me...

Re: The List

G'day Ray. Just came upon your list. Great work and interesting. My boat, Bella Rose, (not sure of any previous names) is number 60. Rego JS154N, and she resides in Northern N.S.W. Regards, Eximea.
